Herpes II

I've recent taken a Herpes blood test, and the results are as follows:

Herpes II IgG Positive 1/1000 (and any number > 1/100 is 'significant'
Herpes II IgM Negative

I know that it's possible to not have symptoms, but I've never had an symptoms my entire life.
the doctor told me that 1/1000 means that there are herpes antibodies in my body, but it does not necessarily mean that I have herpes. He further said that the presence of antibodies may mean that i was exposed to the virus at some point in the past, and that my body has developed those antibodies because it 'recognized' the virus. But again, he said that doesnt mean that I have herpes II.

But I'm really confused. Of all the literature that I've read since I was much younger, I've read that it's either you have herpes or you don't. But is it true that your body can develop those antibodies (which means you were exposed to it at some point) but yet you don't have Herpes II.

I've been searching online for hours trying to find an answer. Can someone please help??

this is not a test with which is widely done so I can't really comment on the accuracy of it.  It really appears to be an old fashioned titer test which really is not all that accurate so you'll need to repeat it with a different test at some point for better answers.
