it's a + result. the actual number is fairly meaningless.
Odds are your hsv1 is oral as you suspect.

I've finally got my herpes blood igG results back today and there were positive for type 1 (2.74) and type 2 negative (0.24). As I have never had any blisters/spots around genitals but having the occasional clear discharge, could I assume that the type 1 is oral and not genital? Is 2.74 result a high level? Would be great to get some help and advice. Seasons greetings to everyone.
Thank you Grace for replying. They said that the test were negative and now this is the 3rd neg results. For the 2nd and 3rd tests each time i've been swabbed there has been little if no discharge present. I might have to go to another clinic.
What confuses me is some sites and the drs I've seen say men do not get discharge with Herpes, but other sites do!
Just discharge probably isn't due to herpes ob's in the urethra. What did the gum clinic say when you returned with symptoms again this time? Did they retest/retreat for ngu?
It would be great to get some feedback on this.
After 4 months I now have the discharge back again. All of my tests for Gon, Clymidia, Syphilis have come back negative and these tests have been completed 3 times. Would Herpes cause discharge even without spots/blisters and if it does would it be a recurring issue? The discharge is thick and clear.
I am so stressed about this situation, I've been crying at work - not good for a 40yr old man.
I would so appricate some comments.
Would you need to have blisters inside your ureatha for a man to have penile discharge?
I'm not sure how many times you need to hear this doesn't sound at all like herpes? Really, it doesn't. the discharge with herpes is clear and would never last 7 weeks plus you didn't have any obvious lesions either.
continue to follow up at the gum clinic if your symptoms continue. it wouldn't be unusual for yeast to overgrow with all the antibiotics you've had. I don't know if you can buy jock itch cream otc in the UK or not but if you can, certainly wouldn't hurt to give it a try for a week or so.

Is it common to have discharge with herpes? Some sites states only woman get a discharge.
No, it's not normal for herpes. Hence why it does not at all sound like herpes (and you were diagnosed with NSU/gonorrea)...
You are right herpes is not a standard test in UK. As I said all other tests came back negative. I've gone back to clinic several times and they tell me they can only test when someone has blisters or spots. Also say blood tests are sometimes not accurate and I should stop worrying, As I said the itching and pressure around pubic area has been going on for 7/8 weeks. Would that be normal for a herpes first outbreak?
Your symptoms were not herpes related. Follow-up with your doctor regarding your lingering symptoms. Itching could be as simple as jock itch, or still related to the bacterial infection (or gonorrea) that you had.
Hi Jason,
Did you get tested for herpes? I don't believe they test for herpes as standard when doing STD testing! It would be difficult to test for herpes by swab if there are no symptoms/sores present and even then swab samples aren't sufficient enough to make a diagnosis!
I think the only thing to do is go back and express your concerns, explain yoru symptoms and ask for further testing i.e. blood testing to verify your herpes status! It's a very worrying time!
Good Luck!
Mel.
