Herpes test borderline?

Greetings All,

I hope someone can help me.  I recently developed a rash in my pubic hair region.  I went to the doctor and he briefly looked at it and stated it could be folliculitus or maybe herpes.  He recommended a blood test to check for herpes.  The test has come back as:  HSV I - IGG negative; HSV II - Borderline; and HSV I&II - IGM negative.

The lab said I should be retested in several weeks to check for a previous exposure.

Brief history:
I am male.
In November 2008, I had a rash in my pubic hair region and the folds of my legs that the doctor said was folliculitis.  It took about 1.5 months to finally clear up.  This rash appeared right after a sexual encounter.
My new rash is only in the pubic hair region.  It was itchy, and looked like all those herpes pictures I saw on the internet.  My last sexual encounter was approximately 3 weeks prior to the rash starting.  I have had the rash for 11 days now and it appears to be healing now.  .

From the information I saw on the internet about the tests, it appears that if the IGM is negative, it means if this is herpes, it is not a new infection, but a recurrence.  But that does not make sense with the IGG being borderline, shouldn't it be positive if it is herpes because it would at least date back to November 2008?

The new doctor said the rash back in November may have been herpes, and then I caught a staph infection at the same time.

Any advice on what the tests mean?  Any advice on what to do next?

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you.

You need to post the numeric results for your IgG test. Disregard the IgM, it is not a valid test for herpes.

Petal130,

The test was done abroad and when I asked for the numeric results, they told me it may not make much sense, but the HSV II IGG was borderline at 17.45.

I hope this will help.

Please help me to understand, I am so stressed out and nervous!

Thank you.
