Pos+ IGM, Neg- IGG...CONFUSED!!!

I went to my gyn today to check on a red bump I got on the inside of my vagina. I took my most recent HSV test results (tested March 2008) for him to look at that my PRIMARY DOCTOR read to me saying I was NEGATIVE for both HSV 1&2.

My GYN is saying that I'm POSITIVE based on the test results!!! I don't know what to think!!? I waited over 6 months since my last possible exposure to get tested for ALL STDs. HIV, Herpes, Ghonnorhea, Chlymydia, Syphilis...everything. I even specifically asked for herpeselect IGG tests and here's my results for those:

Herpeselect-1 IGG = .3 Normal Herpeselect-2 IGG = .3 Normal HSV IGM Screen = Detected HSV IGM, Titer = 1:16

He said because the IGM is positive I have herpes! But, I tested negative in the IGG and hadn't had any sexual contact in over 6 months...not even one kiss! I don't understand what to believe, and my gyn said that my primary doctor misread the results to me. He immediately put me on valtrax as of today, when he's not sure if I even need it! He also said he would have thought nothing of that red bump if he had not seen my HSV test numbers. Yet he says I have herpes!

HELP!! Which doctor was right? Are my IGG numbers considered conclusive if I waited over 6 months to get tested!? According to my numbers and the time frame do I really have herpes?! I'm so stressed out! I drew blood again just to make sure, but not I have to wait a week for the results!

curious 1231980 is having similar probles as in you original post! You 2 might be able to help each other!
maybe it took your body/immune system tha long to develop/begin making igm antibodies -showing recent infection or its a false positive(rarely it takes 6 moths but happens)! get a different conformation test or have the western blot done its the most accurate test but its almost $400 including everytihng or the closest to the western blot accuracy is tha bio kit rapid assay because its more sensetive to picking up new/begining infection as opposed to focus herpes select test which has a lot of false positive issues under 3.5 and sensitivity issues lmfao if tha makes sense or helps. any more questions let me know

So, why would I test negative for IGG 1&2 and positive for IGM? I waited over 6 months from the last sexual exposure to test. No oral, no sex, no kissing, no nothing for 6 months.

igm is never used to make a complete testing diagnosis urgh!(not you but idiot doctors lol) igm just shows recent infection and it dissapers at the begining of your immune system building antibodies (if tha makes sense it dissapers after building pleatu antibodies) which can also show a false positive as well and as igg (-what im going through w no symptoms going on month number 4 i nvever had an std in my life but i found at leats 20 cases like mine/ours on here that turn out to be negative) with results under 3.5 there needs to be more conformation testing to prove out false positives especially if oyu had the focus test done.(try bio kit rapid assay or western blot) your igm is very low i would retest using another test! ur doctor isnt 2 bright lol but if you had a symptom of a bumb he should have cultured it!(actually if its not swabbed w/in 24hrs more than likely it would come back a false negative) i jus dont understand im pre med (not a md yet) but i know more info than most doctors do that are pefrorming the testing and diagnosing of people tha is crazy its lke wha did i pay you for lmfao! If you have any other questions let me know hope tha helps
