Hello,
10 days ago I made a set of the worst decisions of my life. After a night out drinking, and missing the last train home, I decided to go for a "massage", which led to me having unprotected sex with a sex worker. This alone would be horrible, but the fact that I am married with a 4 month old son is the part I am most ashamed of. I cannot contemplate how I could have done such a thing. That is something I will need the rest of my life, and professional help discussion I need to have with myself or a mental health professional.
My main concern, and reason for posting here, is the physical well being of my innocent wife and child. This is followed closely by their emotional well being. Below is a timeline of events and symptoms:
2/2 (day 0):
- Received oral sex from a sex worker, and penetrated the same woman (sex lasted <2 minutes and was not rough). My penis was covered with a plastic sheet (non-latex as far as I can recall) for both acts. Sex felt odd (very dry)
- Did not sleep that night
2/3-5 (days 1-3):
- Frequent urge to urinate, no pain during urination, stomach pains, occasional pain in the kidney areas, discomfort (like a muscle pull) around anus and perineum, fatigue
2/6-2/7 (day 4-5):
- Traveled abroad for a business trip (on plane for 8 hours) to a much warmer climate (+25 degrees vs home)
- Frequent urge to urinate, no pain during urination but some tingling at tip of urethra afterwards, light lower abdominal pains, discomfort in testicles, perineum, inner thighs and bum, fatigue
- very light cough and sniffles
- Poor sleep
- Panic regarding my situation, constant remorse and looking up symptoms on internet
- Inability to concentrate
2/8 (day 6)
- Still abroad and sitting 10+ hours per day on plastic lawn chair outside
- discomfort/irritation in testicles, perineum, inner thighs and bum worse, still frequently urinating
- Saw a local doctor and was prescribed 2 types of antibiotic (one 250mg x2 once per day and one 100mg x1 twice per day)... will post the medication after I get back to the hotel
- Panic at the though of losing the life I've build over one night of extremely poor choices
- Inability to concentrate
2/9 (Day 7)
- Still abroad and sitting 10+ hours per day on plastic lawn chair outside
- No improvement in symptoms from previous day
- Extreme fatigue (possibly did not take in enough fluids)
- Night sweats (A/C turned off)
- Waking up every 1-2 hours
- Panic over situation intensifying
- Dry lips (after waking up)
- Flu like symptoms (very weak sore throat), fatigue, no temperature but some hot flashes
- Inability to concentrate
2/11 (Day 9)
- Still abroad and sitting 10+ hours per day on plastic lawn chair outside
- Still urinating a lot (~10 times/day), still have discomfort in my testicles, scrotum, etc.
- Dry lips (upon waking up)
- Spotted two small pimple-like marks on my belt line at my lower back before going to bed (not itchy) - will post a picture tonight
- Convinced I now have herpes
- Tingling sensation around lips, eyes
- Panic over situation intensifying
- Flu like symptoms (very weak sore throat), fatigue, no temperature but some hot flashes (worst when I'm in bed)
- Inability to concentrate
- Fatigue in AM
2/12
- Frequent urination still there, discomfort in perineum still there
- Night sweats again (again when AC turned off)
- Generally same symptoms as 2/11 but now more panic as I am worried about HIV
- Fatigue in AM
I am planning to return home on 2/14 and it is not possible for me to see a doctor until then. I have a scheduled STD check on 2/15.
- My wife and I are not sexually active at the moment
- I did kiss my wife and son several times in the 3 days following the incident (I am worried if I could have given them herpes at that time)
- I plan on telling my wife what I have done in person upon returning home
My main questions:
1. Does it seem correct to assume (until a swab of the pimples, and a blood test) that I have genital herpes?
2. What threat do I pose to my family physically by staying in the same apartment? (should I find a hotel room instead?)
3. Do any of my symptoms point to HIV?
Thank you for your expertise.
