Likelihood of hsv1 oral-genital transmission

Hi,

I was recently diagnosed with Hsv1 in the mouth through a blood test as I had cold sores as a child. What is the likelihood that I would pass hsv1 to my boyfriend's genitals during oral sex when I do not have a cold sore. Should I always use protection for him when I do this ?

correct - you need to know his full hsv status in order to decide what his risk is.

Thanks for your response, Grace. He has been very careful in the past with using protection and gets a periodic STD test so I am not concerned that he has genital hsv, but I am guessing it is relevant for me to know if he ever had oral hsv-1 due to it's relevance to his immunity , correct ?
