I am 38 weeks pregnant 4 cm & 50% effaced and I have herpes I'm just wandering what if I have an unseen outbreak and I give birth vaginally? I have been taking the medicine for herpes since 36 weeks and see now outbreak still but what if there is one and can't see or feel it? Will my baby get it? How can we know for sure?

If you have an established herpes hsv2  virus in the genital area then its great youve started the suppressive therapy. Its usually started from 34-36 weeks until delivery. Also avoiding the use of scalp electrodes for fetal monitoring during labor,  premature rupture of membranes and doing a C-section if your having an outbreak at the time your giving birth. Very small risk to the baby and if youve had it for quite some time, its estimated that as low as 1 out of 5500 births would affect the baby.

Whats most important here is the fathers status in regards to herpes.
