Sex Worker

Hello All,

3 days ago i had protected sex (Oral and vaginal) with a sex worker in Sydney, Australia. The last two days i have been experiencing mild/moderate itching/tingling all over my body. More so around my neck, buttocks, thighs, lower legs, stomach and arms.

In my genital area i have no red bumps/ blisters and the itching is considerably lower. I have no pain urinating.

Could i be experiencing prodromal symptoms of Genital Herpes?

Is there an accurate test i can take at this stage?

Or am i just being excessively anxious which in turns is causing the itching?

Thank You…

you can't conclude anything from a negative herpes test at this point.
go, be seen and get a proper exam done.

Thank You Grace.

If i'm experiencing symptoms (mild irritation) at this stage (week 3) and i take a type specific blood test, which turns out to be negative for HSV2, would it be sensible to conclude that my current symptoms are not due to Herpes.

I'm of the opinion that if the irritation was from Herpes then i should have antibodies as the virus is active and not dormant.

I will repeat the test at week 12 just to make sure....

you should be following up with your provider if you are still having symptoms. we'd only be guessing as to what is going on.

Hello all,

I would like to hear your feedback.

It has been 20 days since my encounter with a brothel based sex worker and i still feel a minor to moderate irritation (not itch) in my pubic hair region several times per day. The general body irritation/itch that i was experiencing in my first post is gone.  I have no bumps, lesions or blisters. A side note,  14 days ago i shaved my pubic area using a machine that i would normally use to shave on my face to see if that would relieve the irritation. That worked for a day or two but the irritation is back. The hair has grown back since (not very long though).

I have purchased 1% Hydrocortisone cream 2 days ago and have been applying to the area twice daily to relieve the irritation but that only works temporarily.

My question is:

1- Could shaving 5 days after being in contact with the sex worker cause me to still experience the irritation that i was trying to relieve in the first place 14 days later.

2- It has been 20 days since contact with the sex worker; i have not had any flu like symptoms, back pain, lesions, blisters or pimples. Could symptoms of herpes be present for 20 days in the form of generalized irritation in the pubic hair region with no legions or blisters?

3- Am i being paranoid? Could it be a case of Jock itch/ or other type of skin infection down there?

Thank You

why did they give you antibiotics if you were testing negative for everything?

if you are concerned, you'll need to follow up with type specific herpes igg blood testing 3 months post encounter.

Thank You for your reply Grace,

I went to the sexual Health clinic and explained my symptoms to the doctor.

At this point and what i explained to the doctor that i was feeling a mild itch/discomfort around the area on the base of my penis and that i also had a tingling sensation on the inside tip of my penis.

She inspected by Penis and pubic area with a magnify glass thoroughly and said that everything looks normal since she could not see any type of redness/blisters or pimples or any type of active germ.

She also inspected my lymph nodes and said all was good.

She then inserted two swabs into the end hole of my Penis and tested the swab and said all was OK.

She then asked me to urinate into two jars which she then sent to the lab for testing and returned OK.

I was then prescribed two pills of Azithromycin each tablet containing 500gm of Azithromycin

I mentioned to her what are the chances that it could be Herpes. She said that since it has been 5 days since the infection it was extremely unlikely as i would of been itching severly and presenting blisters by now.

Is this an accurate diagnosis with respect to Herpes.

Thank you for your reply.

It has now been 4 days since my encounter with the sex worker, and i'm begining to feel a burning sensation on the inisde of the tip of my penis. I have gone to the toilet 3 times in the last 45 minutes to urinate. My rine has been a clear white color.

You can't experince prodome symptoms of herpes without having herpes first. Your risk from this encounter was low and if your oral sex was protected you had no risk from oral sex.  The vaginal sex would be low risk becuase you are dealing with a one time encounter.

What you are experincing some of it will be anxiety.  Be seen by your provider for a proper work up. You can take a type specific igg test at 12 weeks after the encounter.  No test right now will show you accurately your herpes status.
