Should I be worried?

Hello. I had typical herpes symptoms about a two years ago (genital sores) but my swab was negative and my IgG for HSV2 has been negative as well since then. So I was unable to have a definite answer whether I have genital herpes or not. My two partners in life are also testing HSV2 negative.

Anyway, I'm super attentive when it comes to symptoms, 'cause I wanna swab anything that might give me an answer. Last year I spotted what I thought was an ingrown hair close to my labia - it looked like a harmless red bump for two days and all of a sudden it became a painful white sore. There was never a blister stage of some sort, it was not liquid filled or anything. To make things even worse, the so called sore lasted less than two days so when I arrived at the doctor there was nothing to show at all and I looked like a crazy person.  My doctor told me that it was probably an ingrown hair, that I must have picked at it too much, or maybe it became sore from the friction with my panties, but I don't buy it.

So since then I've been also super attenttive to non blistery/typical things, which is a pain in the neck because I get a lot of follicullitis in my butt. I feel like any red bump could be an outbreak and it stresses me a lot. =/

Ok. Last week I started to feel some weird intermittent pain in the region of my left ovary. Like a cramp, or like gases. I thought it was from being too cold (it's winter down here). So last thursday night I was showering and I felt two raised areas in my left upper buttock, lined up. They looked like tiny swollen bug bites, but there were no bugs around. It didn't have the typical white head of folliculitis either. During that same night it looked like they were already developing some sort of scab, which is weird.

The thing never really itched or sting/hurt.

So friday I set an appointment with my dermatologist (who's aware of my whole herpes thing) and showed her the thing. It was not like a swollen red thing anymore, but flat with some scab. She looked at it with a magnifying glass and said that there were two "micro scabs" in there (like 2mm each) and it didn't look like herpes at all. But she didn't elaborate to what might have caused the micro scabs. I told her about my fears of an atypical herpes outbreak and she basically said that I was trippin'.

To make things worse, I developed some sort of mild pain in my left groin since then (I think I spotted a swollen node, but I'm not sure that's the reason) and the former bumps are still scabbing/healing. The internal cramps/pains are still happening.

For those who suffer of genital herpes...
Should I worry about this red bump episode (and the whole groin pain/cramps feeling)? Can an atypical herpes outbreak look like this - red raised area in the buttock, that leaves micro scabs?

Thank you very much. Any input is appreciated.

No, they did not. But now the staph is not bothering anymore, it was worse during summer...every week there was a new (painful) pimple in my butt! My dermatologist prescribed me topical cream (antibiotic I guess) to apply whenever they popped and it helped. But I'll try the baths the next time!

Well, the doctors are not willing to look any further into the matter...whenever I mention I had ulcers in my vulva, they say "herpes". They are never able to give me alternatives. And my sores looked a lot like the picture I see on the internet, even thought I didn't spot them at the "bump stage".

If this is really herpes, I wish I could only know which damn type it is! My boyfriend is a sweetheart, has been very supportive throughout all this, but I'm always afraid of putting him at risk. But at the same time I won't pay for suppressive therapy before I confirm this is herpes, 'cause it's not reasonable.

Thanks for your support, Grace.

have they suggested that you try bleach baths to try to get rid of the staph for once and for all?  you also can try vinegar in the bath also. google for more info - most of it will be under MRSA info.

many things can cause lesions in the genital area, not just herpes. The negative lesion culture and follow up negative tests also helps to rule out herpes. at this point really nothing else can be done unless you get a return of symptoms to culture .

No, I get folliculitis in my buttock and I don't shave that area. In fact, I don't shave at all, had laser removal a few years ago. My dermatologist says it's staph.

My symptoms were textbook herpetic, but my tests results are not making any sense. You see, during the first episode I had unilateral swollen lymph nodes, a bad sore throat/flu and around 6-8 ulcers spread on my vulva.

None of my partners is positive for HSV2 and neither I am. But the info about me being HSV1+ and possibly suffering from cold sores as a child only leaves HSV2 as an answer.

well if you had hsv1 previously, odds are then that this really isn't herpes that you had then. visual diagnosis is wrong 1/3 of the time which is why we recommend the follow up confirmatory testing.

do you shave your pubic area that you get folliculitis frequently?

gas/ abdominal pain isn't due to herpes.

Yes, I'm HSV1 positive. But my parents believe I had cold sores as a child, so the plot thickens, lol. I certainly didn't have a single cold sore during my teenagehood/adulthood.

My dermatologist was so convinced that the micro scabs were not herpes related that she didn't bother to swab it at all. Guess I should trust a dermatologist opinion on a fresh lesion (less than 24h from appearance), right?

What's actually bothering me are the other symptoms that arised along with the two bumps. I read about prodomes and neuralgia, and I'm not sure if my gassy feeling/pain in the left lower abdominal area qualifies as such.

have you been tested for hsv1 yet?

at this point all you can do is if you get a return of symptoms be seen again for a lesion culture and typing. if your original symptoms were caused by hsv1, it might be years until you get a recurrence to accurately confirm hsv1 genitally.

herpes symptoms on the buttocks will not appear rather  painlessly and then be scabbed in a day or so.
