Yes, No, Yes or NO?!!!!!!

Ok, So about 4yrs ago I go into the hospital because I had this painfull, itch of some sort of clusters of bumps around my rectum area. (no fluid filled blisters or leisions) Maybe 30 mins of being seen it was a "Possible OB" but wasnt possitive. About a yr later I went in just for a check up but i explained to the doctor about my previous visit. I asked for a test i was told I couldnt receive one cause I had no visible symptoms.. about 3 months later that cluster of bumps came back. I went back in and was tested for HSV2 the doctor told me "Possible, but not sure just to act on it like I do have herpes".. Other then those clusters of bumps those two times I have had no other kind of signs or symptoms. No blisters or leisions no bumps Since then Ive had 3 sex partners all whom ive told and explained the my situation "POSSIBE Herpes Infection".. All were ok and understanding about it.. All have been tested negative for the virus.. So does this mean I dont have it or all was just blessed enough not to have caught the virus? Confused.. I am so confused? I really wish I could get a positive yes or no on this situation..

can bumps be herpes?  most times they are not. especially recurrences tend to reoccur more as just ulcerated areas, not bumps.

you need to start being very assertive about your healthcare!!  Be seen every time you have symptoms for a proper exam. If they suspect herpes, make them do a lesion culture and typing. Getting this done after 48 hours of symptoms being present is going to have a much higher false negative rate. Make a list of questions and go to your regular doctor with them. Ask them to specifically obtain all herpes testing you have had done and anything positive, ask them specifically what the results were. Also insist on a type specific herpes igg blood test to see what your hsv1 and hsv2 status is too if there is not a + lesion culture that was typed at any point.  4 years is far too long to be getting the answers you are getting and it's time to make your providers more accountable with their answers to you!!!  If they aren't helpful with this, time to find a provider who will be!!

Well, that's the thing. You can't get a straight or consistent answer about that from anybody. Because they don't really know. Like I said, my doctors both said, no, my bump didnot look like a typical herpes. They said herpes appears as blisters and most of the time but not always in patches. A "herpes patch" is how one of them referred to it. I also, had a response to one of my posts on this forum that genital HSV1 will usually present itself in the "classic" appearance. (I had to ask and do some more reading but I took that to mean blisters). But then you can google all day about herpes and almost 9 out of 10 sites will tell you herpes doesn't not always look like blisters, that it can appear as red bumps that form sores, it can even appears as a group of little pimples or even some have stated it can appear as just as one pimple. Some sites say the outbreak can be so small and not typical that you wouldn't even know it was herpes. So, you never know what the answer will be and it's unlikely you will ever find a consistent uniform answer to that question that doesn't just keep you confused. I even get contradictory answers from doctors from time to time about different stuff. You can talk to ten different "experts" about just about anything and will more times that not, get ten different variations on an answer.

My own personal observation is that the traditional belief by 'most' people who haven't really bothered to dig into researching and reading as much of the different stuff out there on herpes as they can gobble up, is that herpes is generally presented with blisters & coldsores (on mouth) etc. That's what people have always generally related herpes appearance to. If not on all outbreaks, then at least at some point during the course of outbreaks.

Maybe someone else has a definitive answer. Or maybe the answer is, there isn't a definitive answer

Ok, well I guess I got a little confused by your first post then, because you said you were "tested for HSV2" but you gave no results. Just that the doctor said you were possible herpes infected. So, it does not sound like you were actually tested. Because a test will not come back as "possible". It either comes back as positive or negative. So, you need to get tested to get your questions answered. Once you get test results then you can post them and Grace will probably comment on your results.

As for your bumps not blisters. I've read some sites that herpes can appear as bumps and not blisters. But I've read others say that herpes will normally show blisters. I've never gotten a straight answer to that because I don't think anyone can really say one way or another beyond their own experience with it. If you've got just bumps, see if a Doctor will culture them. Some doctors will not unless there is a "fluid-filled"  blister. The last doctor I saw would not because he said unless it's a blister it's not worth culturing. Was afraid of possible staff infection setting in from damaging the skin if scraping or cutting a sample. In fact 'two' different doctors including a dermatologists as well as a primary doctor I've seen on different occasions both said the bumps looked nothing like herpes, that is they were herpes, they would be blisters,  and then they would see a reason to culture. I've never had one blister.

So, good luck and if you ever get a definite answer to your question about the "bumps" vs "blister" by all means, please share with us, if nothing else, just to add to the confusion of different answers from different sources.

Curious question. In a case of herpes HSV2 in a female, is it likely just to have bumps and not fluid filled blisters or lesions?

Ok, first things first. You`re having symptoms now, is that right? If so, GO BE SEEN! You need answers right now and maybe you`re living thinking you have herpes when you don`t. And if you do happen to have herpes, you can take preventive measures to avoid transmission to partners and also learn what type it is.

So you had lesions that were swabbed in the past? What was the result? You can get a copy of such results.

If you're not having symptoms anymore, you can get a blood test for herpes anytime and learn if you have it or not. Ask for a type specific IgG test. You can get it online through some testing sites.

See here is the thing about hemmroids, they can make you secrete anal fluid from your rectum and cause extreme itching on the outside!! I went to the ER once from this and they found the hemmroid, which actually  got bigger later on.
Go to a private STD clinic to get a blood test done if your Drs won't give you a blood test. It's best to know for sure!

I say you should go get a blood test to see if you have anti bodies for hsv.
You said that you had a swab done, did you ever get your results??
Do you have hemmroids? Just a thought, cuz hemmroids are pretty itchy.

it's unfortunate that you haven't had any proper testing yet with all of this from the sounds of things :(  Did they ever do any swabs of your active symptoms when you had them?

yes sometimes just itching is the symptom of a recurrence.

are you in the US?

Did you ever get a blood test? Also did the dr ever swab the area and test for herpes?
If not then there is no Answer. Go ask for a herpeselect IGG blood test. And then post the numbers here for grace to help you on.
