Hpv transmission

Hi

my question is, can someone with hpv genital warts, infect some else with the virus if there is no outbreak of warts present?  Is it only transmitted when the warts are present? Im really confused because you can have hpv  types 6 and 11 and not know it (no symptoms), how can one prevent spreading the virus if you're not aware you have it in the first place.  Another question: If one has hpv of any strain, with no symptoms can it be transmitted?

You can spread HPV without having symptoms. This goes for the types of HPV that cause warts and those that typically don't produce easily recognized symptoms.

As far as the "only when warts are present" question goes, they usually are present for a while then go away for good. If your warts have been gone for months, the virus is likely cleared and would not be transmittable.
