mood slots and what appears in the sidebar

what is happening in the mood column instigating issues needs to stop, okay? Some people are using that to instigate trouble constantly and someone needs to address the issue. I also think if you are going to talk about a controversial subject, like politics in a journal,  it needs restricted to friends only. They are being used in a manner not befitting to the site.There are groups set up to handle those subjects.  Anyone else noticed?

What is happening in this thread is exactly my point as to why certain journals should not be a part of sidebars.  When an issue such as this begins to take place in a journal, a sidebar can become "filled up" quite quickly.  It is human nature for others to get curious and take a look.  Of course not all are offended, but certain topics and the direction the journals take do become offensive and hurtful. Perhaps not the original intent, but it happens.  So if there is a way for sidebars to be hidden, perhaps that is the best suggestion.  Otherwise I stand by my suggestion that certain journals be made friends only.  The guidelines and rules obviously to be determined by the mods.  I just think that this way, no one feels that that a certain group are being censored as the rules could be applied to all.  I can honestly say I have never found the mods to be biased one way or the other.

We have been called all kinds of insults and names and degraded, and it is so common that it is not even recognized anymore. That is why I left CE.  I can disagree, without insulting people, if I don't like it, I can go on to the next post. But I do not appreciate being treated like a 2nd class citizen because I have different ideas or have different beliefs.

I am sure there are many on the conservative side that have their lists where they were basically accosted just because they said something that was not what the liberal side wanted to hear.

And bringing out the friends list does not in any way intimidate me in the least. What does surprise me is that this site does not show up on the side bar, and if it did I think more people would be voicing their opinions besides the ones doing the dirty deed. eh?

lefties righties, is not the point, but if you want to make it one I challenge anyone to go see which side is doing it eh? The point is that in the last couple of weeks alone, jabs are being taken against people, using these tools to do it. This is what needs to stop. I have no problem with those tools when used appropriately, however that is not the case. I do not think it benefits anyone other than those with an agenda be it, politics, relition or any other topic. I have witnessed very mean actions and the point is that these tools are being used to hurt others, period. And something needs done to address it. If these issues cannot be addressed to the satisfaction of all here, then maybe we should back track and make certain topics off limits? That is not what I am advocating but if it is the only way to control the situation then maybe that subject needs revisited. The lefty thing is really getting old and is just one example of the hate that is spreading even while discussing this topic. Evidence alone it needs addressed.

As to sidebars, we appreciate the feedback, and the suggestions.  New features are oftentimes discussed, and we'll be certain to review all suggestions the next time they're reviewed.

I think it's a good time to remember that MedHelp's primary mission is to be a safe and supportive medical info site.  That's safe and supportive for everyone - people on every side of the political or religious spectrums.  We don't expect everyone to agree, but we do expect that everyone stays respectful and civil, according to our Terms of Use.   If everyone can maintain that, then the mood statements won't be an issue at all.

It seems to me, that  as long as the "instigating," "controversial subjects,"  the insults and attacks are from one that leans toward liberalism, there is no problem, but when one of us that are more conservative just state our opinions or something going on, then we are told statements such as: like "I am so offended" or "If you want to be that stupid and believe that," or even "How ignorant."  

If you don't like what you are reading, then do like we do. Go on to the next thing.

I think the whining and crying because it is not what you want to hear should be stopped.

I think people should grow up and allow people freedom of speech, for ALL people, not just those of the liberal persuasion.

Here's the thing, with the lefties, if you don't like it, then you insult the person instead of the issue. That is what offends me. However, for some reason, there is a double standard here, and myself and other conservatives are fair game when it comes to offending.

I don't know how this hide a bar thing works. Is it made so if the person doesn't want to see the journal they can just click something to hide it? That way each individual maybe could choose for themselves.
I don't think these topics need to stay in the groups. I can't tell you how many times I've had people tell me how much something meant to them or touched them from something I put in a journal. I do try to make them inspirational and uplifting, of course, but I've had so many people write to me thanking me saying it gave them hope or peace. I'd hate to take that away from anyone.

everyone doesnt have to see them do they I dont go to every journal and click on it, why would you, we have all put politics and religion into the journals..I would like to know how it affects sick people if they dont go to the site , they can just as easily go onto a group..whats the differance here ?

I also do not see this as a right or left wing issue.  What we need to remember is that there are many members from all over the world, not all are American.  And yes, sometimes the journals are offensive to some.  I also agree the "moods" should not be used innappropriately, but agree that many are guilty of that (including myself on occasion).  Doesn't make it right.  I just think if we could all remember that this is a medical site first and foremost, and as much fun as some of the journals are, perhaps not are appropriate for everyone to see?  And I do believe things like politics, religion, etc. should stay in the groups.  Again, just my opinion.

This has nothing to do with left wing anything. I am as conservative as you can find and I know this has nothing to do with left wing or freedoms. This is a private website they can do what they want. If you want why not start a blog? Many sites are dedicated to blog that are free and easy to set up.

Let's be honest here. Just about everybody at some point or another has used the mood message to "dig" at someone else. Teko, I've seen you do it too. I do think it's an excellent idea for it to stop. Everyone does need to act more respectfully on here, especially on the Current Events community. I've deleted that from my communities because of all the nastiness I kept seeing over there. It appeas when some disagree with others they feel the need to attack personally and name call. I really, really wish everyone could just discuss their viewpoint without feeling afraid to because they will be attacked. I do understand that things get heated when we're talking politcs and we have so many people with so many different beliefs and viewpoints but we all should get the same respect and be allowed to voice our opinion without being rediculed.
I've actually seen people copy and paste other people's journals just to mock and make fun of them. Not only is it wrong and childish but it's just plain mean. If we don't agree on something that's fine but we can still be polite and respectful.

Oh please.  I've suggested it before and I'll suggest it again.  Put an auto hide on the side bar.  Then if you don't want to see, you won't.

If you don't like a journal, don't read or participate.

All of our freedoms are tempered with responsibilities.  If you don't want to read a journal, it's your responsibility not to read it.  There's certainly no need for censorship.

CE, The Patriots (which you started), From the past to the Future, just to name a few are sites where you can discuss politics and make your point there. Journals being used expressly to push those discussions could be made friends only? As far as the mood thing being used to ridicule others that have said something you dont like, or to push your political message needs monitored. Nothing good is coming out of it unless you call keeping the site in a constant uproar part of your  or anyone elses agenda. I will reiterate, MH needs to monitor and step in for the sake of all members here. How many members need to fall by the wayside first?
