NO PERIOD AFTER PROVERA

by pebbles7, Oct 29, 2007 10:58AM
am 28 years told and was on birth control for over 10 years i recently stopped taking in february and have been spotting in between periods on and of since then.  the doctor found a very small fibroid 1.8cm but does not feel this is the problem.  He put me on a dose of provera for 10 days, which stopped the spotting however i never got a period only brown spotting afterwards, only trace of red blood.  My periods were always on schedule before the one dose of provera i took. .  I went back to doc and he did bloodwork on me tsh, lh, thyroid, pregnany, prolactin which all came back within normal limits.  I still am uncertain why i have not got my period and what this could be from. please help.  i have another appt in 2 weeks to go back once again  Prior to the provera i had regular periods just spotting in between, my last real period was in august and i stoped the dose of provera at end of September

Your lining may have become too thinned out before taking Provera so you would not have responded to the Provera by having a  period.  I often do an office transvaginal ultrasound to see if the endometrial lining is thin.  If it is too thin, then you may not respond to the Provera as expected because the lining was not thick enough to respond to the Provera by a full period.
If this is not the case by ultrasound then you may have your FSH/LH, Estradiol checked as well. If these are normal then I try a month of oral contraceptive pills to see if you have a period after taking both estrogen and progesterone in the form of the birth control pill.
