I've had a few and they are not bad. They give you good drugs so you don't even realize whats going on. Most people sleep through them. The only after affect is some gas but that passes.
The uncomfortable part is the stuff you drink the night before. Stay home because that stuff will have you running for the bathroom till you're all cleaned out.
Really, it's not bad.

I know you're anxious, since you've never had this test done yourself, but I've had it done more than once.  Even with all my chemical sensitivities, I did alright coming off of the anesthesia.  It's more like Meyan said about the test being worse mentally than physically.  I'm sure you will relax after you experience the test for yourself and see that it isn't really as bad as it sounds like it ought to be.  The preparations are actually harder than the test itself.  I think the preparations are also harder mentally than they are physically.

I agree with Furballsmom, there really isn't anything to be afraid of. The procedure itself  does not take very long to do. It's a bit uncomfortable, somewhat more mentally than physically, for me anyway, I'm a bit shy. My doctor actually took pictures of my intestines and I got to keep a copy. I had to sign for it beforehand because he said they might be used for various reasons. I don't have bloody diarrhea but I have been getting it on and off for about 20 years. I'm so glad I had it done my doctor removed pre-cancerous cells and now I know I have to go for the procedure every 2 years. This possibly could have saved my life.

Hello

I've had colonoscopies done before.  The procedure itself is not scary.  If you're not sensitive to anesthesia yourself, you shouldn't have anything to be worried about as far as the procedure itself.  I am sensitive to pharmaceuticals, but I went through this procedure just fine.  And, I have Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) myself.

I can't comment on the bloody diarrhea, though, since I normally deal with IBS symptoms at the other extreme.

But, I don't think there is anything to be scared about.  Mostly, you're just supposed to have someone else to pick you up and take you home after the procedure is finished, and you're not supposed to sign any documents for the next 24 hours after you're finished with the procedure.  Not that you'll want to be actually doing much of anything anyway, since you already obviously feel pretty lousy if you're experiencing all this bloody diarrhea.  I do get diarrhea from time to time, I just experience more constipation than I do diarrhea.

Anyway, don't be frightened of the procedure itself.
