I can't claim the natural methods I am using are going to cure me. I can't even claim that I have lyme as I have not been officially diagnosed yet, but we all know how hard that diagnosis can be to come by. I live in Colorado, so I don't have many options with LLMD's either and no one I know locally that is "cutting edge".
I think even with antibiotics, most docs knowledgeable about lyme are claiming only 80-90% of the bacteria will be purged from your body. Your body should suppress the rest of it. So I don't think I'm expecting the natural supplements to rid it completely, but hopefully get to a point where my immune system stops being supressed.
I went out to the Hansa Center (Dr. Jernigan) and have been following his protocol for over a month now. I believe it has helped as I seem to have more good days than bad. I still have a lot of creepy symptoms that I hope to be without someday, but I think progress is being made.
Bacterial and viral infections in CFS and fibromyalgia patients. Also, there are various types of mycoplasmas and the longer CFS patients go undiagnosed, the more infections they are likely to have. Some CFS patients have multiple mycoplasma (L-form bacteria) infections:

Hi Todd,
I would ask your Naturopathic physician to check out: http://www.hansacenter.com/ (click on "eStore") I even have herxing symptoms from Dr. Jernigan's yeast-ease and Borrologen (viruses) formulas ! Dr. Jernigan successfully treated his own lyme disease without antibiotics.
I've been on his program for about 8 months... give or take 1 or 2 months of a break. And improvements are still continuing. I must point out that I do not have lyme. I have numerous infections and the treatment for many CFS patients is years longer than most lyme patients.
not trying to discredit a natural method for treating LD, but my LLMD is a naturopathic dr who always tries to use natural remedies, but she said the natural treatments for LD are ineffective. She's an Oregon LLMD so I doubt she’s that cutting edge when it comes to lyme as it simply isn’t that common in this region, so she could be totally wrong on her conclusion.
how long have you been taking the natural formula and what is it called? Have you seen improvements?
thanks,
todd
I should mentioned that like ott70, I'm also now on natural formulas (Dr. David A. Jernigan's formulas --- Hansa Center) and still have the herxing symptoms. I'm thrilled to say that there are safe alternatives to antibiotics ! (my opinion)
My "antibiotics" are "natural" and "yes" I herxed. I have taken the natural stuff on three separate occasions and each time I ended up herxing to some degree. The first two times were miserable and guesswork dosages by myself, while this current protocol I'm on is more controlled. Each herxing period involved a lot of heart-related symptoms for me. This last go-around generated a sharp increase in my pulse skips/PVC's. Happy to say they have lessened, although I still have periods of PVC's, chest pain, and my left arm having numbness/pain. I'm only one month into my protocol and I know some docs say three months for very year of being ill before you start to recover. For me, that means two more months but I hope to make it shorter!
I participated in this poll, although I want to point out that my diagnosis is CFS. I do, however, have L-form bacteria (mycoplama) and believe me..... had herxing symptoms after I started the antibiotics.
I wanted to stop the doxy about 1 1/2 months after starting, it was bad 48 hours after starting then again major herx 28 days after first herx.
Sure sounds similar to what I had. Hopefully you will feel like a new person when it's all done.
I've definitely felt more symptoms return since I started my antibiotic injections two weeks ago. My muscle twitching frequency (which was nearly gone) increased, my left leg started buzzing again, really bad headaches returned, burning muscles returned, and the general feeling of flu-like symptoms come and go (which are new). I’ve been eating better and trying to exercise as regularly as possible. Only 10.5 more weeks of injections!
Air hunger was the first herx reaction I had. Very strange. I also had a bad nightmare.
I had worsening of numbness and tingling, stabbing pains, twitching from head to toe, pain in new places and generally felt bad all over. It lasted a month or so.
