5th Day of no BM

5th Day of no BM

My DD is going on  her 5th day of no bowel movement.  You may have seen my post last week about her lactose intolerance and the fact that I was having to stop breastfeeding.  I started her on soy formula which is working really well, but she hasn't had a bm since starting it on Thursday.  She doesn't seem uncomfortable and isn't even trying to go.  She is passing quite a bit of gas, but that is all.  I have starting putting Karo syrup in her bottles, but nothing yet.  I am just really worried because five days is a really long time and I know she must be somewhat uncomfortable.  I have a call into the ped nurse, but I haven't heard back from her yet.  Any suggestions??

I don't actually know that I would've started the karo so quickly. Forumla's a pretty big change from breastmilk and I know it kind of slows things up! Max is drinking forumla and breastmilk, but when I introduced the formula he didn't go for about 4-5 days. I had put a call into the doc's office who said it was 100% normal.....low and behold he went that same day!

I was in the SAME boat as you!  My DD had 6 days of no BM... I was freaking, so I took her to the Dr.  The Dr asked if she was eating well - yes, asked if she was wetting several diapers - yes, asked if she seemed uncomfortable - no, then checked to see if her tummy was hard - no... And then, during the Dr visit, my DD pooped... She was fine... Dr said that sometimes they can go 5-7 days!  The Dr recommended prune juice - however, it made DD too gassy... and she also recommended the Karo - however, I have read on the internet that Karo can be dangerous to little ones... My Dr said worse comes to worse I could give her a suppository for babies...

My dr recommended 1/4 oz of prune juice with 1/4 oz of water.  That was when she hadn't pooped in 2 weeks!  Same thing though - she wasn't comfortable and couldn't care less.  I think it bothered me more.  But the prune juice worked wonders.  Now we have her on a regular dose of prune juice just to keep her "regular".
