6 weeks empty sac- miscarriage??

6 weeks empty sac- miscarriage??

I was 5 weeks, 2 days according to my last period, and then at night I started dripping blood. the bleeding only lasted for a minute or so, but I passed a clot. I went to the doctor the very next day, and he did a vaginal ultrasound. He said that I would probably miscarry, because I bled the night before, and he could only find the sac but no baby. He said there are two chances: that 1. I am either alot earlier in my pregnancy than I thought, or 2. I am miscarrying. but either way since he couldn't see a heartbeat, he said it didn't look good.

I don't understand though, how I could have a sac and no baby in it. I feel fine. and it's been exactly a week since I went to the doctor, and I still haven't had any signs of bleeding or spotting whatsoever. He even gave me pills to ease the pain and blood because he told me to expect it in the next few days. I didn't take the pills, because I didn't even start to bleed.

I am just wondering if this happened to anyone else, because my mom and the doctor are both convinced I miscarried since I passed a clot. they don't even care that the blood only lasted for one minute. they said if I passed any clots, It probably miscarried. I'm just so confused, because how can the sac still be there and the baby fall out if the sac is still intact??

at 5weeks your baby could have been the clot you passed as bad as it sounds. The baby isn't so big , sorry to hear that you might be miscarrying .The sac is there but the baby isn't is not something you want to hear. During your period you shed all of that , so while bleeding your sac might not have came out but a missing baby might have. My step-mom has had many miscarriages and many missing babies almost if somebody just stole it with no bleeding.

I'm so sorry to hear about your possible pregnancy loss.  I've had several of those, and what can be done is to ask your doc to check your hcg levels every couple of days for 2-3 times to see if they are rising.  When I miscarried, the hcg levels didn't double like they should and then they dropped.  Once the sac was passed (which once happened in an ER - not a good experience), it was over within a day or two.

Now if your hcg is rising and continues to go up, and they find a heartbeat, they should be able to give you progesterone to help support your pregnancy.

Good luck.  If you've lost your baby, please know that nothing anyone can say will fix it, but lots of people have been there, and we do know how it feels.  Take care of you, and a baby will come and be just the right baby at just the right time. My 13 year old son and 20 year old daughter are living proof.

an ultrasound at 5 weeks won't show much, wait 1-2 weeks and have another one done.  Also see if they'll monitor your hCG levels.

With this pregnancy at 6 weeks I had an ultrasound, we didn't see a baby or a heartbeat, but at the next apt there was a strong heartbeat.  When I had my ultrasound to measure the baby I'm measuring right on schedule, and am having a healthy pregnancy.  Don't loose hope yet, you might not miscarry.

thanks for the comments to my previous post. I've been in Greece this whole time (found out 2 days before the trip) so the doctor I saw had to be translated for me. since I've seen him it's been a week and 2 or 3 days, and it seemed like my nausea just has been getting worse and worse. and I still have preg. symptoms (like swollen boobs, and discomfort/crampy pain if I move suddenly or in a position that squashes my stomach) I will be able to get another ultrasound when I'm back in the U.S., but if the clot was a miscarriage, why would my symptoms be getting worse??

If you can't get anything else dine because your out of the country I'd say just try to hope for the best and keep an eye on any more bleeding.  If it was just that one clot, then I'd guess it's a good sign.

Symptoms don't normally get worse unless your hormones are going up.  For me when I had a missed miscarriage there was a point when I just wasn't acting pregnant anymore, because the hormones had essentially dissapeared. Also, was it just one clot?  Typically when you miscarry you have what seems like a heavy period and bleed for at least a few days.

Hi, Yeah it was just one clot. And I am now back in the states, about 8 1/2 weeks, and still haven't had any bleeding at all since then.. My nausea though is so terrible. it is constant and I feel really ill most of the day and night. I'm going to go to the clinic today or tomorrow and hopefully they will tell me what's going on.

I also took another home pregnancy test the other day, and it's still positive, so I'm not sure if I miscarried it would still show positive or not after 2 weeks.. Thanks for your advice. I am now just worried cuz I've been so sick, and am thinking that could be either good or bad.. lol I'll post the results when I get home. Thanks!
