8 WEEKS, NO HEARTBEAT:( IS THERE ANY HOPE?

8 WEEKS, NO HEARTBEAT:( IS THERE ANY HOPE?

I am 8 weeks pregnant. Everything has been fine until yesterday I went to the bathroom and there was blood. I went straight to the ER. When I got there I had to go to the bathroom again, and I blood clot came out the size of a lime. I figured for sure I miscarried. So I went in and had an ultrasound and sure enough we got to see the baby....everything seemed fine except there was no heartbeat. The doctor said that wasn't a promising sign. Ever since the blood clot came out I haven't had any bleeding. And to top it off, the ER doctor didn't even tell me what could have been the cause of the blood clot. I don;t know what to think anymore. I just want everything to be ok:(.

I'm very sorry, but you probably miscarried. Blood clots aren't a good sign either; let alone no heart beat.

If I did miscarry....why did we see the baby?

The same thing happened to my sister at 6 weeks. She didn't find out for sure that she had miscarried until 8 weeks because the baby was still there (she started bleeding clots 2 weeks after the miscarriage). She had to have a D&C because the baby was still in there, even though she had clots.

If you did indeed miscarry and you still saw the baby it could be that you have not had a complete miscarriage.  You may start bleeding again in the next few days.  Or your body may not continue the miscarriage on it's own and you will end up needing a d&c.  Had you previously seen the heartbeat?  If you HAD then the absence of one means you did in fact miscarry.  Did they tell you how big the baby measured when they did the ultrasound?

I have not seen the heartbeat yet. When they measured the baby, they said I was 8 wks along from the u/s, which is right.

Speaking generally (though someone might write in telling that this was not true in  their case), if the embryo is confirmed to be the right size for 8 weeks and there is no heartbeat, that means a loss.  If this is what has happened for you, I'm so sorry.  As GA says, if you don't continue to bleed, it is possible that you might need a D&C.  The day of the embryo's demise and passing the embryo are not always the same day in a miscarriage.  The second event can lag the first by quite a while.  But while this is all going on you should see your doctor for advice.

I am so sorry to hear you are going through this. My daughter starting bleeding, with slight cramps around 8 weeks..passed a small clot at that point. Went in ASAP and got an ultrasound..the baby was still there, and the heart beat was strong. She was told to have rest and to not lift anything heavy..and to keep monitoring any blood loss. Every other day or so, she would have fresh blood in small amounts..but no more clots. Her morning sickness continued, etc. Now she is 21 weeks along and carrying my 2nd grandson..due March 22. Please don't give up hope even through the scariest times. God bless you and your little one.
