I had it throughout my pregnancy. It was terrible. I was living on Tums and sometimes they didn't help. It was so bad that even drinking water irritated my esophagus. All I can say is that it goes away after delivery :) If they dr ok'd the meds, then I'd say you're good to take them. You wouldn't want to have problems with your throat from constant burning. Hope you feel better soon.
I have bad acid reflucx too! I take over the counter Zantac. Before pregnancy I took prescription Prevacid. Sometimes my throat hurts really bad. Maybe you should try Zantac. It is on the safe meds list that my OB gave me. Good luck! :)
I will talk to my OB about Zantac next Tuesday at my next appt. I am not sure why she said Prilosec is ok, given everything I've read about it. She's one of the best high risk OBs on this coast, and I trust her, BUT I'm scared about what I read. Thanks to all!!!
I have acid indigestion almost every night. I have noticed it is usually really bad when I eat tomatos or garlic. It hurts to the point where I am almost in tears. To help it I usually have a glass of water, or a glass of milk, or some yogurt. Then when I lay down, I have my pillows so proped up that I am basically sitting in a chair. I am able to fall asleep that way and when I wake up for my first midnight pee, it is usually gone. Then I can rest normal. Hope this helps :)
Again thanks to all. My acid is so bad that it doesn't go away with conventional means (change in diet, sleeping up, tums, etc...) My throat is so sore and swollen that it almost closes (or feels that way) and it's intolerable. The ENT did a scope where they put the fiber optic thing down your nose to look at your throat and confirmed the burns and why it's so sore and swollen. It's either stay in bed for the next 4 months and don't eat/drink or take Prilosec (or something like it). I already planned on talking to my OB again next Tues about whether it really is safe to decide once and for all on what to do the rest of the pg.
I had reflux so bad with my son that I would wake up in the night unable to speak or breathe. I went on meds at 7 months.
People don't understand how painful and scary it can be. I am a soloist and my voice is considerably lower now. I think my esophagus was damaged. People would laugh and offer me a tums. It made my dh mad, he actually thought he was going to lose me one night as I could not breathe.
Won't let it get that bad this time. First sign I will go on the meds.
I never had it prior to pregnancy so I was so confused about what it was....I think I lived on TUMS for months.
I feel for you....it started early
