Age of my baby

I am about 12weeks pregnant I believe at least that is what the ultrasound technician told me.  My baby measures 5.22cm and what I'm trying to do is figure out if 12wks is right or could it be less or more?

My Dr. office is not very helpful at all which is disappointing as this is my first pregnancy and I'm trying to enjoy it.  they do not even give me the opportunity to ask any questions.

Does anyone know how I can find out if at 5.22cm my baby is 12wks old?  My problem is that I can't remember the first day of my last period ...

I would imagine that your doctor or the tech that measured you is probably rather close to the real gestational age! My ob office measured me at 6 weeks, 5 days and I counted 7 weeks 3 days.  It's a 5 day difference but pretty close.  They can usually estimate gestational age by the measurements of the gestational sac.

Was this your first u/s?  The earlier the u/s the more accurate they are.  Usually they are right within 2 weeks give or take. The average for a 12 week old fetus (based on my search) is about 2.13 inches and 5.4 cm.
It seems about right.  Of course nothing is 100% those are just averages.

Oh and from everything I've read and been told, a first trimester u/s is pretty much on target.  I went to the dr when I was 5 weeks pregnant, at least that's what they told me because I had no idea when the first day of my last period was and they were very accurate as to my due date on many different high tech 4 D machines.
Also, after just re-reading our post, I would go to a different dr.  You need to ask questions and you need to be going to a dr. that allows that.  It's supposed to be a great experience but it's also a scary one and you need to have as much support as possible.
Good luck and congrats~

Thank you everyone for your replies.  One more question I have then.  I don't remember the first day of my last period so I have no idea what my due date will be.  How do I find that out??  I thought that my US yesterday would be able to tell me but all the tech said was that I'm about 12wks.  Will my dr. be able to tell me once she gets the results from the tech?  I'm just so anxious with this being my first baby.  I bought a daily pregnancy journal and I want to start writing in it but I don't know the correct dates or my due date yet so I'm reluctant to start writing.
