Amniotic Fluid levels

What are normal AFI lvls? What kind of scale do they go on? Is it normal for the levels to vary week to week?

they have never told me anything besides that my fluid looked good. sorry, just wanted to let you know someone is listening.

i did see on one of those discovery health shows where they measured how many centimeters were between the fetus and the sack as some sort of gauge. it was a show about twin twin transfusion syndrome and a cushion below (i think they said, but am no authority) 3 centimeters was very worrisome.

I think afi levels can go from 0-25.  I had a lot of trouble with low levels.  The midwife told me that a 13 is perfect but anything above ten is acceptable.  My levels dropped as low as 7 sometimes.  They told me 5 could be an automatic c-section  The last weeks of my pregnancy I had AFI taken every week and had to have a NST every week.

It is normal for the levels to change.  I went from 7 to 14 depending on how much water I was drinking.  When my levels got very low I had to drink a gallon of water every day for a week and then test again.

Everything turned out okay though and I now have my beautiful baby girl.
