Atenolol 25mg and pregnancy

My wife we just found out is pregnant, and see takes Atenolol 25mg for high blood presure, will this cause problems, and does it cause Birth defects???

She needs to call her doctors office and ask what to do.

she did, he said he beleives its ok, but there are several things on the web that say different

Its all about risk vs. benefit.  If her doctor feels she needs this particular drug to control her pressures, then it may outweigh the possible risks of using it.  

If she is uncomfortable using it, she should ask if there is any safer alternative.

I take that occasionally for situational anxiety..  My ob/gyn said it was fine to take..

Thank you Tanker chic, we have heard lots of mixed opinions on this so far, one doc said it should be fine another says NO, and there are lots of stuff on the web that say it could be harmful
