Bleeding and miscarriage

I am 38 years old and conceived for the first time in December 2004. When I was pregnant for 63 days there was sudden miscarriage at home. After the miscarriage, the doctor did not do any D&C on me saying that it is not necessary as I was pregnant for only 2 months and as the abortion is complete. I was prescribed Methorgin tablets for 3 days/ 3 times a day and an antibiotic and Flagyl tablets (500 mg) for 7 days. Slight bleeding was there for about 8 days after abortion. I was normal for a few days and from 16th day of miscarriage again I have started to bleed, at times less and sometimes more. I dont have any abdominal pain.Doctor did not prescribe any medication but advised only proper rest. I did not have any intercourse with my husband. Now 22 days have passed after my miscarriage. I want to know why the bleeding persists even after a fortnight? Is it a must that I should have undergone a D&C? Is there any other problem with my uterus? Please clarify.

First,let me say how sorry I am. I know this is a hard time for you. I experienced s mc at 6 weeks back in July. I chose to not have a d&c, and did not take the medication either, so my experience is slightly different. However, my bleeding persisted, on and off, for almost 2 months.
If you are concerned, I would go see your dr, but I do think that the amount of time it takes a woman to pass everything may vary.

I had a missed miscarriage in Sept of 03 and I did have a D&C however they did not get everything and I started bleeding and cramping really bad and had to go for another D&C in Oct of 03.  After my 2nd D&C the bleeding practically stopped.  I think I would check with your dr just to be sure everything is out.  That could be why you are still bleeding.  Good Luck and I am sorry for your loss.

The medication that you mentioned can cause this problem.  Did your doctor do an ultrasound after your miscarriage?  This would show if there was any retained tissue.  I'm sorry that you have had to endure all of this.  I hope that you are on the road to recovery soon!
