Breast Feeding 9 week old baby

Is feeding my baby 7 times a day enough since he's older now?

When I was feeding my first, I fed basically on demand.  She ate very quickly, and it never took more than fifteen minutes for her to be full and me to be empty.  With my second, when he wanted to eat all the time, I asked my dr., and he said the baby wasnt getting full.  I actually introduced a bottle at that point.  7 times a day is about every three hours, which would be ok according to the books - is your baby happy with htat ammount of nursing?

Yes, sometimes, I have to wake him up to feed so I just want to makre sure.  I am trying to wean him from the middle of the night feeding but what do you do with your engouraged breasts?

Baby's are good self regulators and thrive best when fed on-demand (assuming you are only feeding them formula or breastmilk). In fact, IMO, the only way to successfully exclusively breastfeed a baby is on demand. CJ was born Oct 28th, I nurse exclusively and he eats throughout the night. He will go for hours at a time netween feedings, but he does still eat at night. I think to expect a 9 week old to sleep throughout the entire night w/o eating is a bit premature. My fella eats way more than 6 or 7 times a day, but again, I feed mine on his schedule, not mine. Not an easy thing considering I have 2 other boys : ) Now if you are supplementing with formula, things may be different as it is not as easily digested and therefor takes longer to process.

Hi girl, what's up?  Yeah, I just want to make sure he is getting enough to eat.  I am not supplementing and he seems to be thriving with just breat milk!
I think he is drinking about 4 ozs at a time, it's so hard to tell!

Hi dolly, I hope you and gavin are doing well. 7 times a day is perfectly fine. My dd is 3 months and sleeping through the night now and I bf her 6 times and she also has 3 bottles a day. As for the engorgement, once you have a few nights of not feeding, your body will get used to it and you shouldn't be engorged for too long. If u need to manually express a bit, that would be fine.

I fed mine on demand too.  I notied that he would cluster feed in the evening, meaning he would eat more in the evening and taper at night.  It was nice, but it was all him.  He did not sleep throug hthe night at 9 weeks weither, plus if they are hitting a growth spurt they may demand a little more.  My son did well so I just went with it.
