Cam's pediatrician appt

Well apparently Cameron has a virus...but that's what all doctors say when they don't know I have learned...

Cameron is at 19lbs, 12 oz and 77.5cm..he is also starting homo milk half a bottle a day for a week, then a whole bottle a day for another week, then one and a half..until i run out of formula...i still have 2 cases and a super powder can...he loves the whole milk...

I asked why homo versus 2%..you hear things everywhere and he got really angry..saying for whoever to wants to argue to go to school for x amount of years and get x amount of experience etc etc and then go talk to him..it was kind of funny.. but i was asking out of curiosity..he said to start with homo..its easier on their digestive track...he also said NEVER to mix the formula and the whole milk together because that's really not good...(i remember seeing this here) but i guess it all comes down to each their own...every drs preference...he also said its the worsest thing to cut cold turkey the formula because it could cause a shock...i thought it was rather interesting.. he had alot of things, papers etc etc to back up what he said which was good

do you all think what im doing is okay...

I'm surprised you've been told to start him on cow's milk before his first birthday.  I mean,  I know he's close,  he's almost 11 months old,  I've always heard the rule of thumb is after the birthday.

the simple answer to why whole milk instead of 2% is that babies need the fat to develop brain cells. so even a healthily gaining baby needs those fat molecules.

I have heard two things on the homo vs. 2% issue.  I have heard that you should start at homo and each year go down a % until they are 4 and stick with skim milk.  This is basically so they will be able to drink skim milk as an adult to cut fat out of their diet.  I got this first one from the fda state food program that I am in for my daycare on how to feed children.  The second one that I am about to mention I got from a vegetarian who went to some sort of health food college in NYC.  The other thing that i have heard is to keep all kids on homo because they need the fat.  The thing they both seem to agree on is that organic is the best because it will not contain growth hormones.  I guess as he gets older you will have to assess the amount of fat from other foods he is eating and see if it is sufficient to take him to skim milk.  This is worth some research in the future for each mom because it will vary depending on how much fat your child is eating.  Ie a vegetarian should probably stick with homo.  Did your doc mention anything about allergies if you start milk before the first birthday.  I think it was perty that brought it to my attention a bit ago and then my mother in law (daughter of a pedi) said it again over the weekend.  I am anxious to see what was said about it if he did mention it.  I am glad to hear that it is not too serous with Cameron.

i always thought waiting until 1 was a big thing as well but his ped said being that he is technically still on formula..he will be getting formula until after he is one still but the whole milk is still being slowly introduced...

kj-i have asked about the allergy reaction because i am allergic to milk...:S the dr told my mom to start whole milk at 6 months for me.. CRAZY...anyways...whatever right whats done is done...he didnt mention anything about the allergies....i dont know if it makes sense but i personally think.. maybe thats why they do not want you switching over cold turkey? i would figure that would do a big change in a body...but thats just my thought...i wonder though...
