Car seat adjustment

Car seat adjustment

For those of you that 'recently' had your baby or those of you that can remember (I can't)
Which adjustment did you put your infant carrier seat on to bring baby home from the hospital?
I'm talking about the shoulder straps.
My seat has the three adjustments (slits that the straps run through) and I can't remember if the lowest one was too low for Talon or not.
It just seems soooooooooo low......of course I can't remember Talon every being THAT small. But I'm sure he was since he was born at only 6 pounds.
I have no reason to believe this one will be much bigger (my first was 6 pounds, 11 ounces and then Talon was only 6 pounds even.
I just want to make sure that I have everything in order.....I do remember that when I was putting Talon in the seat for the first time (in the hospital) that I had to readjust the straps (took forever) and I don't want a replay of that, I'd rather just be ready before hand.

BTW.....I'm 39 weeks today and almost went to L&D overnight....my contractions were every 3 to 5 minutes but they just weren't real strong......horrible menstral cramps is as painful as they got......I never got to the point where I couldn't breath through them so I just decided to wait it out. Glad I did, I finally fell asleep around 3am and they didn't wake me up.
This morning I'm still having a few but they are few and far between so guess it wasn't the real thing. I was dilated to a 1 10 days ago so maybe they ARE doing something besides just coming and going......I sure hope so......Dh's birthday is tomorrow, wouldn't that be a great gift?!?!?!

When the baby faces backwards (as they do in an infant carrier) the shoulder straps are to be at or BELOW the baby's shoulders.  Newborns are so floppy and curl up so small that usually the lowest shoulder strap holes are appropriate.

I believe I moved my son's straps to the second set of holes after a few weeks.

Just remember - When your child is facing backwards the straps are at or below shoulders.  When your child is facing forwards the straps are at or above shoulders.

What straps are you talking about?
The car seat belt ones, or the carrier itself
With the carrier itself you are suppose to place the baby in and then  adjust accordingly (I know its a pain)
The book should explain
I usually put them into the middle slots but my babe's were 8 pounds and up Cody was 7 lbs 1 oz (which seems so small)

Gosh that seems like forever ago and he is only 11 months!!
Need a new one!!..LOL...

My chunker was 8lb 12oz and I felt that the first set of holes was appropriate, for about the first 3 weeks, because he still curled up like a newborn does.

Unfortunately, as cinnamon said, sometimes you have to change things once you actually get the baby in the seat.

In the very beginning the straps were placed at the lowest position.  My babies were 7 pounders and not much over that.  But, I remember them being sooo small, and had very floppy heads, so you have to watch the tilt of the child seat also, and I sat in the back with them on the way home from the hopt.  If your baby is too big for the bottom hole, it won't take much time to make the adjustment.  I do remember it was a pain to fiddle with the straps, and I always made an extra effort to remember how it all went together.  I am not very mechanically inclined.  Good luck!

My thanks to you all......I did adjust them to the lowest level...I figured that would be right but just wanted to double check.
Thanks again,
