Conceiving after D

I had a M/C at 6 wk and had a D&C on 1/3/06.  It's been 2 weeks after the surgery and we are ready to TTC again.  Is that ok?  My OB said to wait one cycle but if I do get pregnant, it'l be fine.  Will my body be able to handle another a pregnancy so soon?

I would go with what your doctor reccomends even though it will be tough to be patient. I ahve been told by my doctor that if a pregnancy occurs before the uterus has time to "recover" from the misscarriage or D&C that sometimes another misscarriage or a seriuos infection can occur. So I would try to wait one cycle and then begin trying again. Good luck!

Since you had a D&C it makes your urterine lining thinner, so I would wait until after 1 cycle.  That way the lining thickens up for you.  Good luck!  And very sorry for your loss.

Thats not aleays the case, there is a good chance that you may ovulate. Take a rest from ttcing this cycle, pamper yourself and take it easy:)

You very well could ovulate now, so there's definitely a chance for pg again.  Since you had a D&C (versus just bleeding and m/c naturally) and since the doctor told you to wait 1 month I would definitely heed his advice, better safe than sorry in my opinion.

I Really am anxious to ttc again too. I know how you feel so I started seeing my acupuncturist for help in getting my body back on track. Its been a month since the d/c and Im feeling AFish... so hopefully it wont be long, but the waiting is rough...

I hear many stories of others getting pregnant right away but its a chane you have to be willing to take. Im sure you will be fine!

I also heard that your body won't allow the fertilized egg to attach to the lining if you are not ready.  Is that true?  I guess I am banking on that.  We have had unprotected sex 13 days after the M/C and I am just letting it be.

I think every body varies and if it can implant it will. Again, its a risk which many have been successful with. I wish you luck!

my dr. said to wait at least one cycle and we didnt but didnt end up being pregnant.  i just figured what will be, will be.  we didnt TRY but we didnt prevent it either.

Hi. I am new here and I just had a question someone might know. I had a miscarriage then had a D&C 11/10/05. My periods were irregular prior to that so Dr. had me take a day 21 progesterone test that says I did not ovulate. Has anyone had this or known anyone who has that was still able to conceive in a short period of time. I do have two children 12 & 1 1/2 ( took 10 years of no protection to have last one) so I can carry. I believe I might have to take clomid.

Hi!!  I am new to this! I am going crazy and so is my husband and doc.  I have all the common symptoms of pregnancy ie. tender breast, nausea, vomitting, dizziness, headaches, and cravings.  I have done a few HPT's but they all were negative.  My doc ran a few test and they were normal.  He seems to think that I am still PG.  I don't know what to think any more.  My husband and I have been TTC for 2 long years.  Please Help!!!

I became pregnant immediately after two of my miscarriages and carried both babies to term.

I've never had a D&C though. My cousin was told to wait 3 cycles after her D&C to help heal the uterus since the scraping can be traumatizing to the tissue.

The better the lining the more likely that the baby will be well-nourished within the uterus.

Taking no more than 400IU of supplemental vit. E per day before preg and during early preg can help the uterus to heal, build up a good lining and encourage a good implantation. More than that though is not beneficial and may cause the placenta to attach too deeply (there are no studies to support this claim that I know of but it's better to be "safe than sorry"...there are no reports of a problem with 400IU or lower).

Hi All - I have been coming to this site since 8/05, after having a M/C at 9 weeks (DNC). This is my first time posting a message. We have been TTC since 10/05 with no luck, my cycle has been irregular ever since the DNC. Before getting pregnant my AF was every 34, 35 days. As of today I still have not gotten AF, it's been 42 days. All HPT say negative, have a few symptoms of being pregnant and am concerned something is wrong.

Could I be pregnant and have a negative HPT?? Has this happened to any of you??

This is my 1st x posting.
Had a MC last week. 1st pregnancy, I'm 43. Fetus died at 7wks.. I was in my 11th wk. b4 I started having MS signs.  Had D/C on 1/14.  I'm still bleeding but not heavy, like a reg. period. How long is it usually b4 bleeding stops, I don't have any other symptoms that would indicate infection, just would have thought the bleeding would have subsided.  Any comments would be appreciated.

It is very possible to be pregnant and receive a negative HPT.  Wait a few days and take another one, and if it is negative go see your doctor.

I have a question.  I had a mc on 12/12/05.  I did not need D&C and I bled for exactly 4 days.  I did not use protection afterwards but got AF on 1/8/06.  I had 28 days exactly after my mc.  Am I correct in assuming that my ovulation date is this 1/22/06.  We are trying again but I have been beyond stressed and just want to make sure I've got the correct dates.

I had a D&C on 1-3-06, bled for one week then spotting for another week.  I went back to the doctor on 1-17-06 and she said if I have no pain or any discomfort, there's nothing to worry about.  I am clean now but she warned me I might still spot every once in a wile before I get my first period.  Hope this help.

Had m/c in Oct, my md told me to wait one cycle b4 ttc.  I did and got pregnant, and again had a m/c followed with another dnc.Saw a specialists that told me after a dnc you should use condoms for 4 weeks to avoid any infection because your cervix may still be open, and to wait at least 3-4 cycles b4 trying to concieve.  The lining of the uterus is more like to thin out and not hold a pregnancy.

I had a d & c on 1-10 and my doctor said to wait 1 cycle.  I was told that is to better date the pregnancy and if for some reason I got pg sooner, it would be fine.  The uterus won't accept it if it isn't ready.  I bled for about 8 days and now it's gone.  Hope that helps.  Good luck to everyone!!

It's been 45 days since my LNP, both urine and blood tests have come back negative. Went to the doctor today and they basically treated me like I'm over-reacting. Told me not to come back until I have missed my cycle for 3 months. Is it just me or do you all feel like the most doc's have you on the lower priorities list?

I explained since having a DNC in 8/05, my cycle has been very strange. They really do not have any answers or game plans to offer. Just want to know some options so I can hopefully get pregnany again and have it be successful. Thank you to all who post, it is amaizing how many of us are in this together.

I had a D&C on 12/1/05. Bled a tiny bit on 12/27/05 a tiny bit more on 12/28 and was done on 12/29/05. There was never really even enough bleeding for a tampon. Again, I started to bleed 1/26/06 the same as before. Extremely light on 1/26/06 a little more on 1/27/06 and pretty much done on 1/28/06. The bleeding has been so light and that worries me. Is this my period? I am really wanting to ttc, but I don’t know what is going on with my body, Is this normal?

I just got back this morning from my OBGYN.  I had a dnc 12/25/05 and haven't had a period but some light bleeding.  I'm actually going to start taking prometrium in hopes that after taking it for 10 days, this will induce a period and kick my cycle back into place.  Asking your doctor if this might be a good plan for anyone in the same situation might be worth an inquiry.  Hoping ttc with the next cyle!  good luck to all in the same pursuit!

I just had a mc on 1/31/05. If this is what is happening, my heart goes out to you. I started out with a pinkish colored discharged followed by bright red blood. When I got to the ER and had an ultrasound they told me the bad news. Thinking back now I noticed I had stopped growing as much, and my pg symptoms were not there e.i. heartburn, urinary freq and so forth. They said the gestational sac only measured 7 wks and I was supposed to be about 10 1/2 wks. I hope this helps and my prayers are with you.

I just lucked into this website. I had a miscarriage w/ D & C in May 2005. I was advised by my doctor to wait two cycles before we started trying again. We did. And we are still trying. I know it says it takes the average couple 6 months. Our 6th month just passed, so I am getting a little discouraged. We are anxiously awaiting to get pregnant with our first baby.

Hello I had a d/c on Jan 11th I was 8 weeks along I started ttc 2 weeks after it has now been 5 wks 4 days and I still have not started I took three pregnancy test and they all came back positive but today I had brown spotting then turned light pink I am not having any cramping but I am afraid I will miscarry right away or maybe it is implantation bleeding but would I have shown pregnant so soon before implantation Does anyone know how soon a urine test shows positive so I know more or less how far along I am.Please let me know I am so confused

I am experiencing the same symptoms as you described.  D&C 28 days ago today and I have been spotting daily for past four days.  Very light spotting and always after lunch and then stops.  Is this the start of my cycle?  Have you had a "normal" cycle since your D&C?  Did you go to your dr for a "jumpstart"?

I have just found out that there is no more fetal heartbeat at 10 weeks. Have no symptoms of mc, but they want to do a D & C. I am a natural kind of medical person and do not want to do this if not needed. For anyone that has had a mc and decided to let nature take its course, how long did you have to wait? And if you had a D & C is it harder to conceive after the procedure. TIA

It has only been 3wks and we started trying 1 wk after the d&c is it possible to get pregnant before your period and if so is it safe?

Yes, it's possible to get pg after a D&C, but before your first period. Some docs advise to wait a cycle or two, but others (like your doc) give the green light right away. If your doc thinks it's safe to TTC again, then I wouldn't worry.

I was wondering if anyone has had a D and C due to the lining of the uterus being to thick and if becoming pregnant afterwords is difficult..my dr said everything went fne and said I didn't need any further treatments,but he never said anything about getting pregnant either,as this would be my first child(been trying for 6 years).I had the procedure on june 20th 2006,I am only 29 and eager to start a family,any advice or opinion would be greatly appreciated.Thank you.

Hello everyone, I am in the same boat as you girls. I had a missed miscarriage following a DNC, at 12 weeks. We didn't want to wait, I feel great (DNC was on 07/03 and didn't bleed one bit until a week later and then bled for 1 week starting with bright red blood but turn into something alike a reg period), and haven't had any problems. It's been 3 weeks now and we are bd very frequent. I have been taking the OPK's and comes back as neg. Am I ovulating?? also been taking HPT's since the DNC to see how my hcg levels are going and still comes back with a very faint positive line. What's going on???? Can somebody please tell me?

Hello, I've been reading these messages for probably a month now and finally decided to respond.  It is amazing how many people have experienced the same thing as I.  I had a miscarriage on 7/15/06 and was 5 1/2 weeks along.  I had brown spotting on Thursday and part of Friday (7/13 & 7/14).  Early Saturday morning I woke up and had excessive red bleeding.  I called the midwife and she said it didn't look good.  By Saturday afternoon I knew I had lost the baby naturally.  It was so upsetting for me at the time mainly because I just wanted to know if the baby was okay or if I had truly lost it.  I was almost relieved to know I miscarried because not knowing for me was definitely worse.  At this point I always think I would take the cramping and sore chest over the experience I had a few weeks ago.  I would not mind being sick if it meant in the end that my baby was going to be healthy.

Two weeks later I had a checkup with my midwife.  My midwife told me she'd like me to wait 1-2 cycles before we try again.  I think a lot of doctors and midwifes say to wait even longer because they want you to be emotionally ready to get pregnant again.  I definitely will wait until I know I have started my cycle and then go from there.  It is so hard to be patient because all you want is to feel symptoms again and know you are carrying a baby inside of you.  If my husband and I feel ready then we will probably begin trying again.  Though now he's been reading the Chinese Conception calendar and trying to see when our best chances are for having a boy.  So maybe we will have to wait for 2 cycles to go by  : )  No really we both just want a healthy baby, regardless of if it turns out to be a boy or a girl.  

I have heard so many stories from friends and other family members who have been through the same experience.  All have had multiple healthy pregnancies.  A lot of gotten pregnant 1-3 months after their miscarriage.  The midwife as well as my mother-in-law said something that I am hanging onto. "At least you know you can get pregnant."  This is so true because so many people try for years and even go through numerous fertility treatments and still no luck.  So if it helps, think about the fact that you can get pregnant and focus on the positive.  Believe me it is not always easy (in fact I had a pity party for myself on Saturday) but each day gets easier.  It also helps if you have supportive family and friends who want nothing more than to see you happy.

Good luck to everyone going through this trying experience.  It's frustrating to see people "just get pregnant" and then have a normal pregnancy.  I just know when we actually do have a baby how I will not take it for granted for one second.  This to me is a hard experience but I have definitely learned a lot about myself and what is important in life.

SCARED VERY SCARED.

I had a D/C april 2006. and I waited for 1 period then we tried again. The doctor told us to wait but I was to anxious. So we tired and the first time it worked. So we are pregant again. I lost the other baby at 10-12 weeks, and I am 10 weeks with this new one. The good thing is I am not sick (just really really bad heartburn) and I have energy and I am not bleeding. But i am still very scared that is baby will not hold on. My first ap. is this thurs. They are going to do an ultrasound. But am still scared. I am not sure I did the right thing by trying so fast, but we really want another baby now... And I am kinda of scared that it happened so fast. Has anyone else been in this situation and went on to have a healthy baby 6 weeks after a d/c?

hello this is my first time writing you all but i see that there is a lot of support in this room and I would like to confess about what I did. I found out I was pregnant on May 20 and I found out May 22 I was having a miscarriage. But instead of getting a D&C I had to take prescription meds and wait for it all to pass. I have to give blood to test HCG level to make sure it hit zero. My blood level was tested to day and it was ten. It has been tested on a weekly basis. Last time it was 105, and a few days before that it was 353 and two days before that it was 468. like I said now it is ten.My confession is that I had sex on Sunday two days before this last test. Could this have anything to do with my test result. Am I fertile now? Could I have gotten pregnant then. Of course I am finding out I could cause serious damage to myself. I really dont know anything about a miscarriage and my doc is so busy he never has time to talk i'm always talking to his nurses when i want to speak with him. But do you think sex had anything to do with my test results. Could I have gotten pregnant on Sunday. MY HCG level hasnt drop to zero and I am ashamed to say I had sex before I was suppose to.

Let me give you a quick history about myself. I found out on 2/15/09 i was pregnant, as i had my period last on 01/13/09.  Had my first ultrasound the following week. I was told i was about 5 weeks. Went to my dr's on 03/20/09 to hear the babys heartbeat. Couldn't find it so sent me for an utlrasound and found out i was miscarriaging but not yet bleeding They said the fetus was the size of a 6 week fetus.  I was devastated. Had a DNC on 03/24/09. I had my period on 04/20/09, and then had it on 05/16/09. Now starting yesterd 05/31/09 i have had light, watery bleeding when i wipe, but i'm not due. I am due on june 13. Could this be implantaion bleeding? Any help would be greatly appreciated as we are at the moment TTC again. Now i'm 29yrs old and i have my daughter who will be 11 this month. This miscarraige was only my 2nd pregnancy in my life. Im so worried i wont' be able to conceive again.
