Couple Labor Questions...

by Cheryl23, Apr 08, 2005 12:00AM
Again, this question goes out to the veteran moms. I just have a few pregnancy questions that I'm sure you'll know the answer to. First, I've heard that only 2% of women actually give birth on their due date. Most first pregnancy babies (in experiences with people I know) have been at about 38 weeks or so. What have you experienced - early / late / right on time? Also, I was wondering how soon after the mucous plug comes out does labor actually begin?

1st one 2 weeks early
2cd one 1 week early

1st dd-12 days early
2nd [only ds]-right on his due date
3rd-dd was 3 days late
4th-dd was 9 days early [induced]

My due date was June 14, I was induced on June 10 at 6 am and had my daughter at 3 43 am June 11. She was bigger than what they thought, and DID NOT WANT TO COME OUT. My water broke before my mucous plug fell out, and there are many many different times that it call fall out. Dont think there are two people with the same. I read in a book it can take anywhere from 2 hours to 4 weeks for labor to start after your plug falls out, and some women dont even lose their plug.

My first: Six weeks early
My Second: Two days early lost my plug exactly two weeks before delivery.
You are right about the 2% only delivering on there due date. My aunt delivered on her due date and she told me that her dr. said it was rare for women to deliver on ther due date.

I was induced 5 days after due date. Mucus plug never fell out.

With my first baby I was a weeks early and I lost the plug the day I went into labor. It was the first sign-- after that my water broke.  With my second, he was born on his due date and I did not lose the plug and my water didn't break.

Is it possible to lose peices of your mucus plug at different times?  I'm either doing that or have an infection of some sort.  I keep passing these greenish slimy globs (tmi-- sorry!)  No blood in them though.  I think a while back somebody referred to it as looking like snot, well thats exactly what I'm passing.  Its so gross!

by Jaelyn's Mama, Apr 08, 2005 12:00AM
My mucus plug was a clear brown tinged color. I dont know if the green color is healthy, but I am not sure. It sounds to me like it might be an infection....

Statistically, most first babies are born a bit after the due date.  You are quite right about how few are born right on the due date!

by dawnna, Apr 08, 2005 12:00AM
I was induced 9 days past my due date. And i never lost my mucus plug.

by kck, Apr 08, 2005 12:00AM
My doctor has told me on several occasions that the average for a first baby is 10 days late.  My first was 9 days late, but I started to dilate and lost my plug around week 35....was dilated to 5cm days before water broke.  With my second, I was dilated to 5cm by week 38...had started to dilate around week 32 and lost plug around week 32 also.  They broke my water for me at 38 weeks since I was so dilated.

since it seems like alot of women go past their due dates, how did we ever come up with the 9 month scam??  That's not fair.  I know I sound like a ungrateful little brat, I'm extremely blessed to be preg.  I'm just sooooo ready!!

My son was born on his due date  (I told hime he couldn't coem before that and I always say it was the last time he listened to me!)

by Stacie30, Apr 08, 2005 12:00AM
i was induced 10 days after my due date with both of mine, but even when they tried to induce me my cervix wouldn't dialate, so i just may be a "weird" case...

by nanakay, Apr 08, 2005 12:00AM
To: HA! i knew she was weird!
my sister was born on her due date.....only time she has ever been on time in her life.
actually that isn't true anymore, but it sure was when we were growing up!

my mom's children just kept getting later and later.
my oldest sister born on the due date
middle sister 2 weeks late
me 6 weeks late!

my kids are going the other direction.
ds 1 week late
dd in labor on due date born early early next morning.

going by that patern the next one should be 1 week early.

1st DS was induced on my due date
2nd DS was born just a few minutes after his due date, just after midnight.
I expect to go ALL the way with this one as well as I had no preterm labor with either of the others. I know all are different and I could go 6 weeks early but not expecting that to happen.

Those little monkeys come when they want to!!!
Mostly the due date is an estimation of when...
My first was one week early the other 2 were planned c-sections so they were on their dates exactly.
