Cramping in early pregnancy?

Cramping in early pregnancy?

I am 4 weeks and 5 days pregnant and I started having cramping last night. It feels like menstrual cramps. It is only on the right side of my lower abd (where I usually get my menstrual cramps). It has been going on for several hours now and it is slightly rhythmic. Is this normal. I have read that it probably is but I am still really freaked out about it. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there anything that I can do to relieve the cramps. They are not really painful but are quite annoying.

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that menstrual type cramping is very normal in early pregnancy. I had it with my second (recently) but can't remember with my first (almost 10 years ago) I'd say at this point you have nothing to worry about. You said that the cramping is annoying but not very painful......I would try NOT to take anything for them unless you absolutely have to. My doc didn't want me to take anything at all until my second trimester......so I had to forgo the Tylenol for my headaches.
Good luck to you and Congrats on your pregnancy.

Not to scare you but I had the same thing happen to me, just later in pregnancy. Unfortunately, I had a miscarriage at 19.5 weeks (due to uterine fibroids) I was in labor for 3 days and on the first dat they felt like menstrual cramps but all along I was in preterm labor. During the whole ordeal, I did not bleed or spot. I say all of this to urge you to contact your doctor and at least let him/her know what you are experiencing. It may make a world of difference. But do keep in mind I was further along and later found out I had uterine fibroids. Just be your own advocate--it's your body and your baby! Continued blessings and best of luck to you.

As long as you aren't spotting with the cramps I think you will be okay...I agree don't take anything if you can go without. If you start to bleed you may want to see your doctor for a possible start to a miscarriage.

What exactly is  uterine fibroids? Could they detect this in your ultra sounds? The reason I ask is when I went in for my 13week appointment the doctor said my uterus felt larger then 13 weeks I assured her I knew the start of my last cycle and that I had to be 13 weeks. So then she asked me if I had ever had fibrosis... I said no so then she took me in for another ultra sound and measured the baby and said it measured 13weeks and everything looked great. Then she told me I just have a large uterus. But she still has me a little worried that's why I was wondering what uterine Fibroids was and if there were any signs??? Thanks, Niki
