Dental work during pregnancy

Dental work during pregnancy

I am 10 wks along and need to have a tooth pulled. I called the dentist and he said to check with my ob.  I have called ob and waiting for call back.  I am worried about it.  Anyone else had anything like this with everything ok?

Normally if it is in invasive surgery, they may want you to wait until after the pregnancy. Getting a tooth pulled most times requires some sort of anaesthetic, your doc may ask you to wait until after your 1st trimester. I had to have a crown lengthening done last wednesday and because it was invasive surgery I was told to wait until after delivery.

Hi, I used to be a dental hygienist and unless the procedure cannot wait, we would normally wait until the first trimester's over to do any dental work.  Best of all is to wait the whole pregnancy but sometimes that's not an option.  Unless you're high risk, most likely your ob/gyn will give you the ok to do it.

I had a very risky root canal done at like 10 weeks....I was scared to death.  Had to go to an oral surgeon because the root was curved and wrapped around the next tooth's root....AWFUL.

My pain was so intense, I couldn't handle it....I tried....but the pain was so bad it was stressing me out.  I couldn't sleep, work, eat...nothing.  I opted to have it done with 4-5 xrays being done and lots and lots of tears....fear for my baby.

Everything went really well....I had a healthy baby exactly on time.  She is now 2 and smart as a whip!

I would suggest finding a dentist/dr that has empathy for your situation...and a good bed side manner....

I hate my dr and assistant....they acted like it was such a hassle to give me extra coverings over my belly.

I made them put 4 on me prior to xrays....LOL

I had a abcessed tooth that was bothering me, and waited until my first doctors appointment to ask about dental work. He said just to let my dentist know that I was pregnant, but wanted me to get it taken care of as soon as possible, as he said it could cause pre-term later. He said as long as the dentist knows you are pregnant, he will know what precautions to take.
