Do I refill my Procardia?? Please use as OPEN FORUM as well :)

Morning ladies :o)

I have a dilemma. I am 35w4d with my twins and have been taking Procardia (an anti-contraction) medication since an early labor scare at 31 weeks. I went to the doctor on Monday and she said I am 3 cm dialated and can expect the twins at any time (yay!). According to her, I am a "free woman" as of Friday...no more bedrest (hallelujah!) and no more Procardia. She also said that if the twins decide to try to escape earlier than Friday, she won't stop the labor as they are lookin' good size-wise. Here is my dilemma: I take the Procardia 4x/day and I have 4 pills left...which gets me through 6 AM on Thurdsay (meaning I would be short two doses before Friday). I can refill the prescription, but it seems silly to me to spend $25 for 2 pills, especially when $$ is tight and twins are on the way. I keep thinking to myself: $25 = a few days' worth of diapers, gas $$ for a week, etc. etc. What do y'all think? Do I suck it up and spend the $25 on the Procardia (a prescription for 120 pills...118 of which will be tossed in the garbage)? Or do I miss two doses and let nature take its course?

Another thing to spend $25 on...our coffee maker just died and my fiance is about to go nuts w/o his morning cuppa! :o)

Please feel free to use this post as an open forum...congratulations and blessings to all the new mommies and my special congrats to the newly-discovered twin mommmies out there! you're in for an awesome journey!

I would ask your doctor. Explain that you will be 2 short. Most likely they will tell you to complete what you have but to not purchase anymore.

I would say you r are clear since the doctor said she would not stop labor if the twins decide to come now.  Another idea is call her and see if she can get you a sample pack for just the two pills.  I would spend your money on diapers or that coffee maker.  Good luck on your delivery--you are going to be a busy mom in the next few weeks.

thanks ladies, i will call the doc and hopefully save myself $25.

harley: did you get a chance to talk to your doc about the steroid shots for quinn's lungs? i know the possibility of delivering early is scary in itself, but i think that with your doctor's monitoring and care, she should be just fine! and (if i remember correctly, but with pregnancy brain it's totally doubtful!) you had posted a few weeks ago that quinn was measuring pretty big? that's GREAT, esp. if you know she's going to be early. keep us posted and best wishes to you and little quinn! :)

i also took procardia for early labor contractions.  once i stopped taking the procardia @ 37 wks it took about a day for the contractions to really return.  so i would think missing 2 doses wouldn't really make that much of a difference.  ask the dr. though, just so you have a clear mind about the whole thing.

I have an appt on Monday so I will ask about the steroid injections at that time. Quinn is measuring a week ahead but next Thurs I am having another ultrasound to determine her size in case she needs to come even earlier than 35 weeks. I will keep you posted. :)

Hi there, 1st--I agree with everyone about stopping procardia now. I don't think 2 pills will change anythng.. I was also taking procardia to help with the contractions. I have been taking them for almost 3 weeks now. I went into preterm labor twice at my 31 + 32 weeks along. I was told today by the dr that now that I am over 35 weeks.. They are going to let nature take its course.. I am feeling some tightening starting for the last hour. I have been off of it now for only 6 hours... Im excited and yet curious to what will happen... Well good luck with everything.. and please keep me updated on how it all goes with you... :)
