Febrile Seizures

Febrile Seizures

Hi all,
My daughter is 15 months, and last week had a febrile seizure.  The rational side of my brain knew exactly what was happening but the irrational side was wondering how anyone could go through that and be ok.  She has been healthy since, turns out she had strep.
My question is for anyone who has children who have had a febrile seizure.  Did your child have more than one, or was the first time the last time?  My daughter meets all the criteria for a higher risk of having one again, but even at that her Dr. said many times one is it.  I can only hope that's the case, I don't want to see her go through that again.
Thanks for any input!

At the top of the page where it says search conditions, type in febrile seizures. How awful! I have a 15 mo old and cannot imagine. So scary :(

Thank you, I have read some of the old posts.  I was just wondering how many people have been through this and whether their children have had more than one.

My son had his first and only febrile seizure at 5 years old (he is seven now). It did scare me and I was pretty nervous for sometime afterwards and although I am no longer nervous I am am still pretty cautious and ANY sign of a raised temperature I give him Tylenol. Febrile seizures are very common and although frightening rarely have any long term effects, most occur in infants and toddlers and once over 5 years old are very rare indeed.

She had 2 more within 11 hours of each other, 3 weeks after the first.  We were referred to a pediatric neurologist whom we saw today.  We were given a prescription for Diastat to abort the seizure after 5 minutes. (rectal Valium) and a script for Keppra to be filled if she has another seizure, to be used as a daily maintenance drug.  If there is another occurrence then there will be an EEG done as well.  I hate to see her going through this.  6 years is a long way away!!  We were also told that some children with complex seizures (which hers is because of the 2 in a 24 hour period) don't grow out of them quite like other kids.  I think the hardest part is having no control except for the Diastat.
