Fetal Movement?

by momttc, Dec 27, 2004 12:00AM
Hi ladies, just had a quick question.

I'm 16 weeks with baby number 2!!  All is still going great.  I've been using my doppler to hear the heartbeat and it's steady at 148-150.

My question is thatI can't feel this baby move and I felt my son moving by now.  Everyone said I'll feel the 2nd baby sooner?  What's the deal?  I've felt it a couple times but only if I'm putting a LOT of pressure below my belly button.  It was an accident both times because I was leaning over.  I'm not really "worried" about it since I know I'm bigger this time.  I know this baby has a lot more room than my son did.  So I'm guessing that's why. Is this pretty common?  I just expected to feel quite a few flutters by 15weeks and i'm not.  Now I'm soon starting my 17th week and am a little disappointed, i guess is the word.  And I do suppose I'm a little worried?  I keep telling myself that it's a girl, and she's just more quiet than my son! He kicked NON STOP from 14-15 weeks through labor!

Anyone else have the same questions?  If so when was it that you felt the full fledge kicks! :)  thanks, momttc

I'm right there with you. I'm 18 weeks tomorrow and nothing! I know he's fine because I hear the h/b every week. I have seen him practically doing somersaults on the u/s screen and I feel nothing! Very frustrating. I understand!

It could be that you placenta is in the front and blocking you from feeling lots of movements.

My child just likes to kick my bladder it is a lovely feeling.

I am 23 weeks with my third and I did not really start feeling him good until 20 weeks. At about 19 weeks I started feeling little things here and there. Now it feels like I have a soccer player in there!

Thanks!  I guess I started looking to feel movement a little too soon.  But MAN my husband felt my son move on the OUTSIDE of my tummy at 17 weeks, so I just assumed I would feel the dancing by now.  Hopefully it's just that things aren't as tight in there this time..  My next u/s is the 10th, so 2 weeks.  It'll be a relief to see how much he/she is moving in there.  Every time i look for the heartbeat it's in the same spot and never moves?  It used to be hard to keep track of.  And surely this baby isn't always sleeping when I listen???  It's been at all different times of the day so i don't get why this one's so still.  Hope all is ok.  I'll keep my faith :) momttc

Don't worry. The baby could be positiond funky or you could have a night owl that moves ONLY when your asleep ! During my u/s the baby kept turning toward my spine, so the only thing I felt was pressure on my tailbone. I did have some episodes of bubbly flutters I didn't get any real consistant movement until almost 19 weeks.  By then they were flat out kicks ! I'm the opposite of you, with my DS I barely felt movement, but this is a girl and I feel her all the time !  I can't believe it.

I am 17 weeks now!!!  However, I first felt this one back at 11.5 weeks, but only on a full tummy bending over.  It is becoming more noticeable now, but still cannot feel the baby move all the time.  But, it is getting progressively more.  And, is way cool.  I looked it up in some books which said sometimes it takes longer to feel the baby.  So, I'd not worry yet, it is still early.  Guess you just have to bend over and feel for it til then!  I am waiting for the time when you can feel it from the outside.  Any ideas what week that starts?  Jennimom

well, at 17 weeks my hubby felt my son.  I would say once you feel it move constantly it's not long after you can feel it on the outside.  I had been feeling it for a while or a couple weeks anyway, when hubby finally felt it.

THIS IS DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!!  I want to feel those kicks!  :)  hahah  I think I felt a few things last night when I was laying on my back in bed.  hopefully soon I won't have to "guess" it's the baby and it'll be strong enough to know it is! Oh why can't every pregnancy be the same :)  hahah  You know my NEXT moments of frustration are going to be at the ultrasound!  I bet you anything this baby is going to be in some position and the doc won't be able to tell the sex!  I can just see it happening, hahah

Have a good day! momttc

I hardly even felt my sons kicks.  I felt him shift positions more than him kicking. He dropped at about 6 months and boy did that scare me almost as much as him not moving.  When I was put on the monitor I would feel him move all the time but not when I was home or working.

He even waved at me and my husband when they did the ultrasound.  It was so cute to see. Do not worry about it. I was told that as I had very strong abdominal muscles that that was the reason I was not feeling him kicking all that often.

Take care and good luck with the rest of your pregnancy.

Hey im gonna be 17 weeks and this is my second child also.  My first child i felt alot of movement really early like 10 weeks i know it sounds crazy but very true. I am bigger now and had placenta previa wit my first so i think it can be possible for the placenta to be blocking the baby's movement.  I was so looking forward to feeling this one i missed that feeling.  My other daughter is now 3 and i also think its because i had a c sec because some parts of my belly are still kinda numb, maybe thats another readon well good luck i know it frustrating,  I cant wait to find out the sex its in 1 week.

if youer having a boy, they tend to move less than girls and less obvious.

I am 17 1/2wks pregnant and this is my 2nd kid. Some days I feel the my lil girl move a lot and some days she barley moves. It kind of scares me because I started to feel my son at 16 wks exactly and he didn't stop. You could even feel him outside of my belly by then. This pregnancy is so different. I am also having sleepless nights which is making me think she is a night mover. I have been having US every 2 wks so I know she is okay so hang in there. If you are really worried then call ur ob and tell them your concerns. They will let you come in just to find the heart beat so you feel better. Good luck.
