Fluctuating HCG level and Bleeding!

Not sure if anyone has experienced this but...last Monday, May 17th, I took 2 HPT and they were a faint positive. Next day- saw my OB. Everything was fine, blood test confirmed. Thursday- had a sono (assuming I was 5wks: since LMP). Tech. said she didn't see anything. They gave me 2 choices: 1.) I'm earlier than we think (maybe 3 wks since cycles are 35 days apart), 2.) the baby is outside of the uterus.

At this point I am nervous. Then doctor says my HCG level was only 143, which just means I'm earlier. My next HCG level was 98. He said levels going down didn't look too good. That Saturday-I started cramping and bleeding- went to the ER, the HCG level was 82. Diagnosed with a threatening miscarriage. Saturday night a bloody, flat tissue-like clot passed.

Monday took another blood test, HCG level is 42. Doctors still not sure if I miscarried- but was leaning more to that. I'm still getting all the symptoms of being pregnant. Did another blood test- HCG level went up to 191! By this point we are lost and confused!

Had another sono done- they still dont see anything. No changes in uterus: NOTHING! Called OB, he said last blood test says 141! He wants to see me again on Tuesday, June 1st.

All of this is ONE WEEK! And we still dont know what is going on!

Can someone please help? I have been VERY moody, worried, all the above. I have no idea if I AM pregnant or NOT!

I'm sorry you are having to go through this. I'm not sure, but from what some of the othr ladies have said on here it sounds like it may be etopic, with your levels still rising. Has the Dr. mentioned that or looked for that?

I know it's not something you want to hear, but I also know if it goes too far then that could be dangerous to you. I hope the best for you and am so sorry you are having to deal with this.

Yes, the Dr. is concerned about the levels, but as far as ectopic, he said from looking at the U/S- nothing looks threatening in the tubal area.

The thing that gets me is- WE DONT KNOW ANYTHING!! The HCG levels are more confusing. I woulld truly understand not seeing anything in the U/S because I may be earlier than expected. But Dr. is just really concerned about the levels. 191 is the highest it has ever been. No it's at 141 with the lowest being 42.

I've been reading on here and I see that even if I did miscarry, it takes about 6 wks for the HCG level to go back down.

Another option is I miscarried but everything didn't come out naturally as it should and that's causing the levels to go up and down. Maybe?

But Dr. may want to wait another week and a half or two to check U/S one more time.

I would be fine with either way- it's just not knowing which way!

Thankfully my hubby is ready to try again after we get through this. I want to also- but just scared of this happening again.

What are the chances of having another miscarriage (if thats the case)?

I am not sure where you read that it takes 6 wks for hcg level to go back down, but I think that may be only a few cases. From what I have read myself and have gone through, your hcg level should fall rapidly once the tissue is passed.  Not being an expert, but from what you say, it seems to me that you had an incomplete miscarriage. Have you discussed a d&c with your dr? Otherwise, I know it's hard to wait to know, I went through the SAME thing with my last miscarriage and the waiting to know what is going on is the worst feeling int he world. Can you be happy? Can you start grieving? Sorry, I wish I could offer more and I am sorry you and your Dh have to go through this.

Do you know if I would still get symptoms if I had an incomplete miscarriage? My breast are still sore and getting bigger. I'm real tired. Fell nausuas after eating some things.

With my first m/c (at 5 1/2 weeks), my HCG started dropping before I actually passed anything.  Is was undetectable after about a week.  With my 2nd one, it was a missed m/c at ~ 8 1/2 weeks and after my D&C I didn't bleed much at first, then I had about 4 weeks of bleeding while my HCG slowly dropped.  My MD seemed to think that my body was just so confused.  I continued to be tired and nauseaus for a few weeks, but maybe just from the blood loss and being emotionally drained.  If I were you, I'd definitely f/u with your doc and maybe get your levels checked more frequently.

I believe that may be my case also. There is definitely something in there to make the levels fluctuate.

I assume we will just have to wait a few weeks to REALLY know whats going on.

The exact same thing happened to me, Kiki.  You're not alone!!  My doctor told me he had "never seen anything like it".

Last year, I got pregnant, but almost as soon as I found out, I started bleeding.  My level was at 35.  I kept on bleeding, and my level kept going up, not down.  I had really heavy bleeding, and the HCG continued to increase.  Ultrasounds showed NOTHING.  They told me they couldn't see anything b/c it was so small (HCG never exceeded 300).  BUT I had a lot of pain on my right hand side, all the way through, so my doctor thinks that it was an ectopic that was too small to be seen.  Because they couldn't locate it, they couldn't remove it.  FINALLY, after weeks and weeks of bleeding, my HCG began to drop.  My doctor figures that even though I had passed some tissue and blood, there was still "something" growing at a very slow pace in my body.  Eventually I stopped bleeding.  

Incidentally, ectopic doesn't just mean tubal.  All it means is that the embryo implanted somewhere other than your uterus.

I am sooo sorry you have to go through this.  It makes it even tougher when the doctors have no answers and they just shrug their shoulders.  I saw specialists in hospitals, had about 5 ultrasounds, and eventually time took care of it.

I'm going through everything I've read here.
I've been trying for 20years to get pregnant and this has been the closest.  They sonogramed me, ultrasound me, and my urine test was negative after a period that was on hiatus for 61/2 weeks.  They took my blood and the hcg level is going up, but this is after spotting for a week, then heavy bleeding for 10days!
I'm waiting to see what's going on with this whole thing, but my brain turns into mush.  I finally found a doctor who realized that this has happened to me more then once and they need to look at it more closely instead of the other doctors who were forcing me to use IVF.
So, I'm scared to hope, I pray I'm pregnant, and I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one out here dealing with this.

Hi Everyone... My last cycle was May 25th and I took 3 pregnancy tests that all showed a faint positive...  on July 5th I started bleeding (with clots...). I called my Dr.'s on call nurse because I have one 2 yr. old and never experienced anything like this when pregnant with him...   My Dr.'s nurse gave me a call back and told me to come in to have blood drawn the next day (because the Dr.'s office was closed for the 4th still since it fell on a Sunday this year...) anyway... I had the blood drawn and my Hcg level was at a 36 on July 6 and I have to go back in the morning (July 8) and have it done again...   I am just wondering what my Hcg level should be at 4 1/2 weeks anyway...  Going crazy...

I am going through the same thing.  I tested positve at 1 week hcg level 228.  3 days later it dropped to 125.  They expected misscarriage.  I did bleed only two day.  Next week level went up to 156, then every week as follows 205, 256, 213. This is driving me crazy.  u/s at 4 weeks showed nothing.  I will be 7 weeks next week and I am insisting on anothr u/s and then take it from there.  Pray for me.

Same problem here.. On friday 04/16 I went to urgent care suffer from very bad back pain, he did a pregnancy test and tells me I'm pregnant.. All my cycles have seemed normal and the last one started 03/07 ended on the 12th and started up again on the 14th. On the16th my HCG was 265. I went to the hospital they saw nothing on the Ultrasound, retested my levels at 200, mind you this is all on the 16th. they put me on bed rest and said I threating a miscarriage. On monday 04/19 I was was an OB he re checked my levels it was 193, the doctor said he's pretty sure i already had a miscarriage. then yesterday the 21st I get a call from his office saying my levels need to be checked again it was 365. I don't know what I should be doing or thinking, am I miscarrying or not WHAT IS WRONG with me Oh they want my lvels tested again tommorrow.... I have not seen any clots I'm no longer bleeding as of the 20th, and my pain has decreased greatly..

What should I think if my hcg level goes from 14 to 5 in 2 days and im bleeding the doctor says m/c but I can't give up that easy please help.

my levels have gone down the doctors told me i had a misscarriage so today it has been a week since i am going to walgreens to get a pee test to see if it is positive... reading these has given me some hope cause it devistated me to find out that i misscarried... i hope i didnt and there might be some hope....

I found out I was pregnant April 21st, I started bleeding in about one week.  I had my HCG level checked on Thursday, May 3rd and the level was 380 (Should be either 4 or 6 weeks, not sure).  Checked again on Monday (4 days later), HCG level went up to 630.  Checked HCG level again on Weds. (2 days later) level went down to 580 (I shold be between 6 - 8 weeks).  My doctor thinks I had a miscarriage but is not sure.  Could not see anything on the Ultrasound yet.  Help.

I am having sort of the same problem.  My husband and I got married August 5th and found out last friday that I am pregnant. I went to my first appointment thursday and they were referring me back to my high risk doctor because I have a blood clotting disorder.  The next day I went to pee and wiped finding bright red blood on my toilet paper I put in a tampon for 2 mins to call the doctor and when I took it out it was covered in red blood.  I had no clots or anything. I went to the er and it had stopped. The NP said my cervix was still closed which was a good thing and my test show I am still pregnant but they couldn't tell if I miscarried or not.  After 9 hours in the er I was released with the only answer of every test came back inconclusive.  They know nothing yet.  Couldn't see anything on the ultrasound so not sure if its to early to see or not.  Ectopic pregnancy may be possible but they arent sure.  Thursday my levels were 129.6 friday they were 108 and sunday they went up to 191. I'm lost and have done nothing but cry.
