Funny rash on my 16 month old

Funny rash on my 16 month old

A few days ago I changed my 16 1/2 month old daughters diaper around noon and it was fine. I put her down for a nap and she woke up at 2:30 PM and I went to change her diaper again. it was only a pee diaper but there was this flaming red rash on her bottem. I was actually debating taking her to the doctors it was so bad but decided to home treat it first. She screamed each time I touched it with a wipe and cried after her diaper change like I was hurting her :( I thought it was a diaper rash but it came on so suddenly that I'm not sure. I put Desitan on her, usually does the trick and it did nothing, I used it for every diaper change after that for 4 days. I talked to my mom and she said that because it came on so fast and it was so bad that it almost sounded like a food allergy of some sort but she didn't eat anything differently. It eventually took me using Benadryl  3 times, each time after I used it the rash became a bit better. It is still there a bit I am hoping it is gone by tomorrow morning. How can i prevent this from happening ever again and what was it, a diaper rash or a rash rash???

Did you ever find out the cause for this? I have a 15 month old and it sounds like the exact same thing that came on today and I am concerned about it. Any info would be much appreciated! Thanks.

We used a product called Resalyn (or something like that), it's pink and can be found at local drug stores (not like a Walmart).

My mom would say it's just an acidic pee or poo that has taken a bit of the outer layer of the skin off.  The Resalyn worked wonders to protect and to heal the area.  It's supposed to go on a bit thick.

duh, Resinol...helps to look.  In a small white jar, not a tube.

Sorry, brain doesn't work sometimes!

Once you have wiped her down you can just let her frount and bottom air dry you dont need a cream or powder blow at it or wave but do it quick because babys like to mess beween changes:)
