HEMORAGE INSIDE THE PLECENTA

HEMORAGE INSIDE THE PLECENTA

I went for a level 2 sonogram, due to my age thee Dr. wanted to look for soft downs markers and other defects like open nueral tubes, eveything with the baby was fine, thank God...However my question is that when the sonogram was done they saw what looked like a hemerage inside the plecenta with the baby????? What is this? How does it happen? I was made to come in and get a Rogam Shot early because im O neg. but so is my husband so why they are concerned confused me. The Dr. is seeing me next week after I have another sonogram to see if the hemerage is still there.I checked other online site and cant find anything about this, only hemerages between the plecenta and uterus????? Any idea if this is dangerous?????????

It sounds like it is a possible placenta abruption. I had this in two pregnancies. It can be dangerous as the placenta can tear away from the wall. A full placenta abruption would cause the loss of a baby, however, it does not sound like you have this and this is quite rare. It is important to know, though, that any placenta bleed has risks. I was told that with strict bed rest and no activity, it can heal and in one pregnancy, it almost healed completely. With the other, I ended up with a smaller than average baby, but the baby was completely fine otherwise. Try not to stress, but I would avoid any strenuous activity.

I should probably not reply because I do not have the full answer and medical insight...Just a story, though:  I had a partial placenta abruption caused by physical trauma, a piece came off with a bit of blood loss but the rest of the placenta remained fully attached and there were no further problems with the pregnancy. My best friend had a hemorrage between placenta and uterus wall that became larger and eventually caused her life threatening blood loss and  malnutrition and lack of oxygen for the fetus. She had to get blood transfusions. Apparently the hemorrage was caused by the inability of the placenta to properly attach itself to the uterus due to scar tissues. She had given birth a few years before and since the placenta had not come out on its own, it was basically torn out, possibly causing the scarring, she assumes. It is probably a good idea if your doctor keeps a close eye on this but if you are not bleeding, you can be pretty relaxed.

Hello,

I also have the same condition. Ask your doctor if it is a subchorionic hematoma. Basically, that is a fancy term for a placenta hemorrhage. There is a slight difference between them. I wrote some information on or about May 3rd about hematomas on a posting here on this forum. I imagine you can find it be doing a search.
If you have any more questions, let me know. I am no medical expert but I can tell you what I have found during my quest for research on my bleeding condition.
