HGC Levels

by fritzer, Aug 04, 2004 12:00AM
I have gone through the IVH process and had my first ultrasound after the inplant and did see embryo delevelpment and all numbers were fine I was at 5.5 weeks. At the next checkup,10 days later I am at 6.3 weeks pregnent with a heart beat seen on the ultrasound. But the HCG level was lower than expected, it did not double every 2 days but did double in that 10 day period. What could this meen?

May I ask what the levels were each time?  Sometimes levels don't double every 2 days, sometimes it takes 3 days....  I think sometimes even longer in the beginning, I think...

unfortunately unborn babies don't know how to read our text books, so it could mean nothing.  it sure would make things easier if they would just follow our rules huh? but then again my 3 yr old doesn't always do that either so oh well.

i wish you a happy and healthy 9 months!

My Hcg levels did the same thing..They called me and told me my levels were up but not doubling every 2d like they should...But know they have been on the rise... Now my progestrone levels are low... I believe the baby knows nothing about these #'s... I would like to know how they can tell us our #'s are low when there is such a wide range you can fall in... Every one is different not the same at all.... Try not worry... That is easier said than done...LOL....Many prayers.....

Fritzer:  Not everyone falls under the normal guidelines for hcg levels and still come out with a normal, healthy baby (I've been doing A LOT of research lately on all this and have searched countless forums to ease my own troubles).  So, try not to worry.  The fact that it is going up is a good thing.  Besides, when you get higher levels of hcg, it takes longer than 48-72 hours to double.  The more hcg you have, the longer it takes to rise.  Usually this is true of later in the first trimester and so forth.  I'll pray for a healthy one!

Barbara: When women are going through menopause, hcg levels actually rise (with very small amounts) and you could possibly test positive on a pregnancy test.  For instance, it could be 10 (which is considered preggers).  Totally expected and normal.

Martin4024: it may be nothing, so don't worry until your doctor tells you something is wrong.  Some people's levels rise slower than others.  Some go faster.  If it fails to rise any more or starts declining is when you have to worry.

As for my own troubles...
I found out I was preggers.  The nurse wanted me to get Beta quants 72 hors apart. The levels were 572 and then 2462 - quadrupled instead of doubled! Levels were rising quickly so had an ultrasound to make sure it was not ectopic. Not ectopic and the Dr. thinks it's about 5 weeks if she had to guess. Cannot see much of anything but she did see what appeared to be a sac and then a few more (3-5) sacs of the same size near by (but not clustered yet). She said those could be blood-filled sacs of the egg trying to bury itself in the uterus, which is normal (but no common), it could be multiples, or it could be a molar pregnancy (which is also rare).  My uterus is normal (golf-ball size) for 5 weeks but my elevated hcg levels coupled with the extra "sacs" make her think it could be a molar pregnancy. She says has no feeling one way or the other (normal, multiples, or molar), but she did give me a pamphlet about molar pregnancies, which, in turn, makes me think that she thinks it's molar.  I still have to wait 2 more weeks for another ultrasound but I am about to go crazy. I have not had any bleeding and feel nothing of the pregnancy except that I have to use the bathroom often. I am also currently breast feeding full-time to our 13 month old son. Every blog I've read about others with molar or suspected molar pregnancies have had much higher hcg levels than i do at this same stage.  Does anyone have any advice on this?  Anyone gone through something similar?  Please pray for a healthy singleton or multiple pregnancy!
