HPV and having children??????

HPV and having children??????

Hi i was wondering if anyone had the chance to get pregnant or had children while having HPV?
how can i start? i was told after having a pap and a colposcopy that i had pre-cancerous cells and last friday i had them taken out with a conization (removing the abnormal cells with a loop)
my gyn explained to me that all this was because of a virus i had called HPV. i had a post in another section about Hpv but i now wonder if the conization will effect any future pregnancy that i might want.. dont get me wrong, i have 2 beautiful healthy kids and i do believe that beeing healthy and with my children is more important then getting pregnant again but my husband and i always wanted more children.. is it possible to have kids anyways? i heard that after conization some women have pre-mature birth.. i must sound soooooooooo freaked out here (SORRY GIRLS) its just all this hpv stuff and the fact that i had pre cancerous cells is just a lot.... thanks

I have HPV but very low grade dysplasia that has gone away but come back...My drs want to do a very thin-LEEP on me in a few weeks but they advised it should NOT affect future pregnancies as mine is not severe yet.

I've heard though that after the procedure you should wait 3-5 months to conceive so your cervix can heal and strengthen to hold the baby...my dr told me 6-8 weeks so I don't know.

My friend had a cone biopsy done which is way more invasive than a LEEP and carried twins to term....I think you should be fine...but I'd wait to conceive for at least 3 mos.

There was a recent post just like this with LOTS of responses.  Check the archives, but the main thing everyone said was - Don't worry, MANY (I think someone even said 90% of) women have it and getting pregnant is ok with it and mostly it just lays dormant and you'll be fine.

hi. I have hpv and i didn't have any problem getting pregnant.lol Im currently 5 weeks 6 days.  I conceived while having hpv.  As a matter of fact when i went to the follow up appointment for the coposcolpy sep 19th Thats when they told me i was pregnant!!  We were sooo excited.  My  doctor reassured that they wouldnt do the precedure untill i was 12 weeks and that i wouldnt hurt the baby at all.  If they need to do a Leep they wouldnt do it untill after the baby was born.  I wanted it that way anyway!  But the procedure they do shoulnt have any effect on conceiving or cause problems during the pregnancy.  Just pray about it k.  Good luck to u!(((hugs)))

I found out when I was pregnant with my son that I had hpv (so common!) and besides having a colposcopy at about 10 weeks, it had no effect on the pregnancy at all.  In fact, it completely went away after I delivered him, the doctor said that happens a lot.  It's been two years and still no sign of it returning.

Don't worry, even if it is a wart, they will probably not give you the med. cream, just freeze it off.  I've read about this specifically that it's ok.  If you need a colposcopy, I think they just wait.  ..and usually it won't develop into cancer, especially if you caught it early.

I have HPV too and trying to conceive. As a matter of fact, I was feeling my cervix and I felt a 4mm hard bump on it. I'm worried that this is a wart. but I haven't had time to go to the drs yet. I'm really worried that it will turn into cancer. your not alone with this problem. I also think I might be pregnant right now. so I'm not sure what to do. there is no need for you to worry. the hpv can't get up past your cervix. But when it is time for me to deliver, I want a C-section.

I am so sorry. I know exactly what it feels like. I was shocked too and scared cuz I had NOOO idea about it. Like I thought I was gonna die and sometimes i got so sad thinking I didn't deserve to live anymore. You don't have to feel that way. My mom used to tell me not to feel bad cuz sooo many people got it. I thought she was silly. The truth is, a lot of ppl Do have it and live totally normal lives and deserve to live just as much as anybody else. I don't know what kind you got, but I got the one that only shows abnormal paps, it scared me cuz its called "high risk". Thats why I freaked.  I would like to share an experience I had with a guy I was dating. We ended up having unprotected sex by a silly slip of the mind. It made me feel really guilty when I realized what I had done. I told him. He got tested for stds and he was clean. Little did we know that IT DOESN'T SHOW on guys. I'm only doing his next partner a favor by telling him this, that is, IF he chooses to have protected sex with her. CRAZY.
Now, I have a question of my own. When I want to have kids, will they automatically contract the virus from me???????????????????? dear god.

I have hpv and my doctor told me that once you get a certain strand of it you'll build an immunity to it and you won't ever get the same one again. so as long as you're in a relationship where nobody cheats on the other you have nothing to worry about.

Well its good to hear that you can have kids, I lost my first pregnancy and then was told i had HPV, i thought that maybe that was the reason i lost the baby... and I am so scarred that we will never be able to add to our family and that is the most horrable thing i can think! I am 25 years old, but i know i want a family at some point! I hope eveything turns out ok... and thanks for eveybodys post!
I am so freaked out and reading everything calmed me down...

I have HPV and have a beutiful son. I found out in 1999 that I had it and at that time they barely know what it was. I sure hadnt heard of it. I was told that if I had my son vaganily in 2005 that he would be fine and not get it. They where WRONG! He has spots on his lip and a new one showing up on his wrist. If you do get pregnate get a c-section. He may be a exception but if I had know that my son could get it and now has to get shots to treat it I would have taken a diffrent route. I hope this helps and good luck
