Has anyone had IUI

by duck06, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM
I was just wanting to know if anyone has IUI and what it felt like. We are suppose to have IUI in DEC. I'm a little scared because I had HSG dye and it was very painful to me. The IUI procedure sounds the same. I may be wrong I sure hope so. Also does anyone know what my chances of conception would be on 1st IUI? A few months ago I had 7 foll. and husband is great. Any advice is welcome!!

hi there, i'm glad you posted this question again b/c i was afraid you wouldn't see my response back on 11/1 b/c it took me a few days to respond.  anyway, here's what i wrote:

no, an iui is not the same as the hsg dye. i had the hsg dye too and it was VERY painful for me too. the hsg blows dye thru your tubes. an iui simply deposits your husbands sperm up into your uterus thru a catheter (skinny tube) which they insert up into your vagina. sometimes i felt absolutely nothing at all when they inserted the catheter and sometimes i felt a slight sensation but no pain. you do not feel the sperm (which is washed and spun to make in optimal condition) when it is pushed thru the tube.  it's more uncomfortable to get a pap smear. i believe your chances w/iui is 20%.  will you be doing clomid or injectibles?

Hey! Yes I will be doing clomid tab not inj far as I know. Did you do IUI and Did it work? I really just hope it works the first time which I know most people do. For the question did the dye help me. For me no because I did not have any blockages. Everything was clear although there was a dip in my uterus which dr. said would not be fixed unless I had m/c or continued not to get pregnant. Does anyone know if having 7 foll. would make me more out to have twins? Hope to hear from you all soon!!

ohhh sorry i don't want to scare you!!  it really depends on who is administering it.  i had it done twice... once it hurt a lot and once i barely felt a thing.  i would get the test done for sure... if it does hurt, it's now worse that really, really bad menstual cramps.  it's worth gettin the test done and know your tubes are clear.  i've also heard a lot of woman get prego after the test b/c it kind of opens everything up.  don't know if that's true or not but it's just what i hear.  good luck!

I had the HSG done back in 2002 and it was not that painful--coming from a woman who does not get cramps with her period.  It was just a little uncomfortable--just remember to relax through the whole thing.  I thought it was very cool for they let me watch the screen and I could see how the injection was going.  For me it did help for I had a blockage.  I became pg the next month while on vacation.  Good luck to you

i did iui 2 0r 3 times (i can't remember) and no it did not work. once w/clomid and then w/injectibles.  we went straight to ivf after that and got prego on the first try.  success rates are much higher w/ivf.  w/iui they don't like to see too many follicles b/c they can't control the outcome the way they can w/ivf.  in todays day, they (meaning the fertility docs) want to avoid anything more than twins as the outcome.  so, depending on the size of your foll's, they may not go thru with the iui if you have too many.  that was the way it was w/my fertility clinic at least.  yours may be different, i don't know.  keep me posted...  wouldn't that just be great if it worked the very first time!?!?!!   fingers crossed!

Thanks for the input. I sure hope I don't have to many fall. I got a + opk tuesday I'm on clomid 50mg this month so maybe we want even have to do IUI. I'm sure praying it happens that way. I had high prolactin levels and I'm taking med for that now. Do you know anything about that and how it affects fertiltiy. I do have the tumor from that also. Just  have never heard to many people talk about having this problem. I think my dr. said it causes the uterus not to thicken or something like that. Hope to hear from you all soon.
