you are right, it's not commonCommon cold so i'm sure your fine. I did read one poster on here say that she had 2 in a row but my doc says that is highly unlikey and may have been misdiagnosed. I had a blighted ovum and my next pregnancy was not... God bless and good luck
I had a m/c in Oct. of 06 and it was a blighted ovum. I m/c naturally at 8 weeks and I am preg. again (7weeks). I have been so nervous about having another b/o too! My hcg #'s at my 1st pregnancy blood test were a littleLittle noses decongestant Little tummys low so they had me retest and at least they doubled, which was one thing they never did w/ my b/o. They were rising but never doubling. I have my 1st ultrasound on Feb. 16 and I'm so nervous about not seeing anything! I know where your coming from!! Hang in there!
I have had two blight ovum pregnancies, one was discovered at 8 wks and the other at 12 weeks. I was devestated by the second because my doc kept saying that the firstFirst progesterone mc10 First progesterone mc5 First-progesterone vgs 100 First-progesterone vgs 200 First-progesterone vgs 25 First-progesterone vgs 400 First-progesterone vgs 50 First-testosterone First-testosterone mc was a fluke and that that second one would be just fine. It wasn't. Blight ovums are expecially cruel form of miscarriage because it happens later in the first trimester- just when you are thinking you are out of the woods. With the second at 8 weeks I actually seen the heartbeat on an ultrasound. I had a D&C for both and after reading stories of miscarriages that late in the game, I am glad I did. There was a thought that I had a bicorate uterus (heart shaped uterus) but I had a specialized ultrasound today and apparently everything looks great in there. My doc says I should try again and throws the statistic that the next one has a 65% chance it will be fine. I offer no answers here and I doubt that docs will be able to offer any either. Docs seem pretty clueless sometimes behind the exact reasons behind multiple miscarrages of any kind. My husband and I will do some blood tests to test for chromosomal issues but there is very little chance that is the issue, which is good. I can only offer that I know how women who have multiple miscarriages feel and that those women are not alone. We are not freaks and just need to keep trying until we have nothing left to offer. The hope is that I have read plenty of stories of women saying that they have had a healthy babies after multiple miscarriages. I have heard that progesterone levels being low can cause blight ovums and if I have one more then I may opt for some progesterone suppliments for the first 12 wks of the pregnancy. Also testing for genetic or clotting (requiring heprin or a specific dose of baby asprin regularly during pregnancy) disorders may be possible for those with multiple miscarrages.
I am miscarrying with my 2nd blighted ovum as I type this. My first was at 12 weeks, and this one began at around 6 weeks. (I'm now technically 8 or 9 weeks, and if this doesn't complete within a couple of days, I'll have another D&C.)
I've been told it's very rare to have more than one, so we will likely opt for genetic testing and such (depending on cost and insurance.)
I do want to stress, however, that if you saw a heartbeat, your m/c was NOT a blighted ovum. In a blighted ovum, there is an "empty sac", and an embryo never fully forms into an embryo, and is typically re-absorbed into the body. So that may be good news (n a sense) for you, Pheobe, in that your 2nd wasn't b/c of a reoccuring problem, but a different one.
As devastated as I am, I'm even more worried that there is an underlying cause for this with me, rather than a fluke like it is for just about everyone. I've been told it could very well be just coincidental, but that there could be a problem, so that is why we are looking into things a bit.
We intend to try again asap, but if it happens a third time in a row (as in a 3rd b/o), then I think we'll stop trying, and maybe think about adopting.
Congrats on your pregnancy!!!
I then had two more mcs but they were not blighted ova.
Keeping busy and keeping faith in Michigan.
