Help!!! Embarrased but very consitpated!! Any solutions?

Kinda hesitant talking about this but i am very consitpated.  i have tried prune juice and other high fiber diets but nothing is working.  I am also taking fiber supplements and still dont even have the urge to go to the bathroom.  this was a problem before i became pregant but more uncomfortable now. I am 19weeks and am lucky if i go 2x's a week. My doctor prescribed Miralax but dont wanna take any medicine at ALL. Any other suggestions. Has anyone ever heard of Miralax or have used it during pregnancy.?

I am 36 weeks and have had this problem the entire pregnancy.  It is horrible.  I had it before pregnancy too but not like this and before I could take something.  All they let me take is colace.  Sometimes when I do go (SORRY TMI) it is so bad it hurts and it is huge.  I could deliver the baby through my butt and it would not hurt after what I have been going through.  I already broke my toilet and all.

So sorry, I am of no help.  My doctor knows all this but they just keep saying Colace.

Good Luck.

I have been having similar problems, i think i'm starting to get it under control. I eat a lot of blueberries and apricots and every morning I eat Raisan Bran. I have had IBS for years and wish that I had been doing this all along. Stay away from Dairy. Drink Soymilk for added calcium. Hope this helps you some. I know its a miserable feeling. Good luck.

Hi. In the beginning of my pregnancy, I was pretty bad.  I've always had a problem being regular but for some reason, now, at 36 weeks, i'm very regular and soft (sorry tmi) Which is a HUGE change from my usual pattern.  My diet now is the only thing I cant thing of that is keeping me this way. I've been craving a lot of fruit (maybe it's my body's natural way of cleaing itself out before labor), smoothies, peanuts and rasins, fiber cereal etc.  Have you tried eating a lot of salads, fruits, vegitables, beans and nuts?  Maybe a drastic change will help.
Oh yeah, Funny story, in early pregnancy, I tried that yogurt "Activa" to try regulate myself naturally.  Well, after just one I had such BAD cramps that I thought I was loosing the baby.  It was awful. So dont try that.  It made me awfully sick. I went alright, but I thought I had to go to the emergency room I was so sick.

When I'm desperate, I use an enema. They are about $1 at Wal-mart. You will go in about 5 minutes after using it.

i posted about this same problem and i have found two solutions that are working for me.  First, someone recommended drinking NATURAL apple juice... you can get it in the regular supermarket.... it is much darker in color... i have been drinking the Apple & Eve brand every morning.  I have also been drinking one glass of Colace every 3-4 days or when needed and it has been working for me.

Check how much iron is in your prenatal vitamin.  Maybe you could switch to another vitamin that still has the required amount of iron, but less than what you are currently taking.

Definitely try dried apricots.  Eat a bunch at night and you should be good to go when you wake up.  It has a laxative effect and it's fast!  I have not been constipated recently but I just had to start iron pills for anemia so I'm trying to catch the problem before it happens.  I eat oatmeal and raisin bran too.

Nothing is worse than constipation!  Hope you feel better soon.

Ouch - not a happy place to be in!

My mother said she had the same problem, and negative pressure was a no-no so, she used to have a hot (not warm, hot) glass of milk with a gob of butter and any flavouring, preferably one that has fibre in the morning, and in about 3 hours, the matter was resolved.

Apparantly its not that you are not eating enough fibre, its just the fear of pushing too hard, so this should help.
