High white blood cell

My daughter was at the emergency room complaining about stomach pain they said she had a high white blood cell count but couldn't find anything wrong in blood work or ultrasound, ex-ray and sent her home saying it is probably a virel infection.So why is her white blood cell count high?

I thought with viral they were low and baterial they were high...but I don't know for sure. You may just want to get her re-evaluated at another doctor. Sorry I can't help you more. How old is your daughter? Does she have other symptoms? How long has she had the stomach pains?

The white cell count and differential are interpreted according to a person's clinical condition and medical history. Leukocytosis (a white count increased) is seen in bacterial infections, inflammation, leukemia, trauma, and stress. Leukopenia (a white count decreased) is seen in viral infections.

White blood cells go up when your sick to fight off infections (viral or bacterial)If your still concerned take her to her pediatrician...

Hi, my six year old son has been sick for about seven weeks now, first he had bad tonsilts, now he is complaining of a sore stomack alot of the time, is tired and is not eating like he used to. He had his bloods done and i have just gotten the results back and he has a high WBC. But everything else was fine, they tested him for glangular fever as that is what they taught it was but that came back neg. The doctor said that he could have high WBC cause he brused his spleen when he was two and a half and that is an affect of it. I am really worried now can u please help me i dont know if i am being a hypacondriact or there is something wrong.
