Hydrocodone and pregnancy

by Sara1002, Apr 09, 2008 09:41PM
I have been on hydrocodone since my last pregnancy (2 1/2 years) During my last pregnancy I "cracked" my pelvis. The pain was absolutly unbearable. I could not stand up from a couch by myself, I could not physically lift my own legs into bed or onto a couch, walking would bring me to tears and any thing I would do caused incredible pain, even sitting. I also have a type of arthritus throught my body. It mainly affects my wrists, back, knees and feet. Once I was put on the hydro for my pelvis, it has helped my entire body and made everyday living so much better. My husband and I are now expecting our second child. I was hoping to be off the meds before we concieved, but it happened sooner than expected. I have cut down to 4-6 a day (at most) My OBGYN seems unconserned with me taking the meds, but she has never "educated" me on any possible side effects if any. My pelvis pain was some what manageable before I got pregnant again, but now I can already feel the same horrible pain creeping right back again. I was hoping it would be different this time around, but I do not feel like I will be so lucky. It is so hard to keep up with a 2 year old, working 2 jobs and keeping up with the never ending chores. I dont know how I will be able to manage without the pain meds, but I also am concerned for my baby. I just wish I could live without pain or at least a lower level of pain. I would like any insight of how to cut down? Will taking it hurt my baby? How to deal with the pain once Im off? I am currently 14 weeks along. I still have along way to go--I just need someone to help me. I am beating myself up everyday because I do not want to hurt the baby, but I also cant live with the pain. Any advise would be great. Thank you.
