I got my amnio test back, I am having a.....

Hi ladies, I got my amnio test back yesterday, everything  is normal, WOW. I am having a boy( I have one how is 2 yrs old now). We were hoping for a girl. A healthy baby is all what it matter. Good luck to all of you.

Congratulations!  I wrestled with the amnio (getting one vs. not) for awhile...but finally decided against it.  We do know that we are having a little girl ~ and I am just praying that she is healthy!  Two little boys will be so much fun!  My fiance is one of 3 boys and it's always a great time at his house...and his mom is the most doted on woman EVER...

Thank you ladies. My husband has one sister, only, and no brothers. I have five brothers married with kids and it's true, it's alot of fun to be around them, I have fun I go to visit them overseas( I have no family in the USA), so, you can imagin how wonderful to see them. It's also nice for my son to have a little brother. Thank you all.

I'm just curious. Why did you guys choose to have the amnio?

I didn't do the triple screen and so far all of my u/s's are great. I did ask my ob about that, but she said it's not as accurate as amnio test, it can miss alot of problems. I aslo thought about banking my baby's umbilical cord for my own use in the future for treatment( using stem cell), but my GI dr said it's very expensive and it's easy to find a match for me in the future. So, I am going to donate it like I did with my son's cord.

Honestly, I didn't need to do it. But, I have health problems my self ( Colitis, arthritis, asthma), so, I worry tooooo much about my baby's health, because I know how hard it is to be sick, so, I try to be on the safe side. It wasn't fun at all! They hit a muscle spasem that left my with alot of pain for three days. I had it with my first son because I was on bcp when I got pregnant and I didn't know until I had a surgry( I was 9 wks already!). It was much easier then. My son is healthy and so cute, he is a combination of a swedish father and a Jordanian mother, so, you can imagin the result!!!

Hmm, I thought the amnio was only done if the triple screen and the level 2 ultrasound came back bad.

Well, honestly, there is no need for it, for me!!! But, I worry toooooooo much. I have many health problems my self(Colitis, asthma, arthritis), so, I always worry about any chance of having ababy with any health problems. Wow I never heard of a high rate of the triple screen tests not being accurate. I have heard more of the amnio being very dangerous.
Thats the first time I have heard of a doctor recommending that first. I'm glad it worked out for you and your baby is healthy.

Another thing to rememeber on the amnio (not saying this to scare anyone) one thing it cannot detect is Autism. Autism is much more prevalant now days than anything else including Downe Syndrome.
Just one thing to consider for those who are considering having amnio. It does not detect everything.
1 in 150 kids diagnosed
1 in 94 are boys

You are right about autism. In fact I learned that they don't know what is cousing it. My sister in law had an amnio test 13 years ago and they couldn't see any problem with the baby, now. he was diagnosed with autism! With amnio test, they use to say that there is a chance of 1 out of 200 to 400 women to miscarry, now, the latest study said 1 out of 1500 to 1660!! I don't believe it's worth it if there is no reason for it. For me, like I said I have all of these health problems, so I worry tooooooooo much! otherwise I shouldn't go for it ever.
