Infantile Seborrheic Dermatitis?

Infantile Seborrheic Dermatitis?

Has any of your children had this?  At around 3 weeks of age my daughter started to have red spots on her face and scalp.  After changing her soap to Aveeno and her laundry detergent and it still persisted for another month we took her to her pediatrician.  He said it's seborrheic dermatitis.  He said it's the same as cradle cap but it also effects the oily areas of the face and chest.  He said it doesn't itch and it's common.  He gave me a cream called Desonate and it cleared it up a lot.  But I noticed that it's starting to come back.  He did say that could happen until she's 6 months old.

The doc only gave us two small tubes and the first is almost out.  I don't want to have to pay for more.  I've read that you could use OTC hydrocortisone cream.  Have you tried that?  Did it help?  It's safe to use on her face right?

Also, did you ever notice anything that would make it worse...soaps, heat, spit up etc?

I would avoid the hydrocortisone cream, especially if it is oging to be applied often and to a larger area. It is a steroid and people have been known to develop senstivities to it quickly.

I think you may just have to shell out the extra money and buy another tube. My solution has always been to keep baby comfortable, but not sweating, if you use hats, make sure they don't trap in sweat, wipe of their face frequently with plain water, and don't scrub ; )

My son had it real bad too.  My doc told us to get the Sebulex shampoo to wash his hair every other day and he prescribed Hydrocortizone for the red and oozing areas.  With this combo, it took a couple weeks to clear up.  I hate to put medicine on my son's skin too but tha';s tha only way to help him.  He also has ezcema (eczema) real bad.
I wish you the best of luck.
