Is it safe to take Nitrofurantoin Antibiotic while pregnant?

I was precribed Nitrofurantoin Antibiotics for bladder infection from the hospital and I am pregnant. Not sure how many weeks yet but I go back to doctor tomorrow because right now all they see is a yolk sac & thats another concern I am worried about since I had an ectopic a yr ago. my hormone levels are up and down also but the hospital told me to take these Antibiotic but I researched them online and they say DO NOT TAKE them 2-3 wks pregnant. should I be worried? Could I have another ectopic...I am sooo freaking out, please help?

Actually Nitrofurantoin is quite safe in pregnancy. It is FDA or Food and Drug Administration category B drug which means that normally it is not likely to harm the unborn baby unless taken in the last month of pregnancy. It can pass through breast milk and should be avoided while breastfeeding. So normally you should not worry. However, you can mention this to your Obs and Gyn at next visit. Don't worry, the baby should be fine!  Take care!
