Hey girls!, well, just to think about this makes my stomach upset.... here's the story:
Maddie got her earings pierced when she was about 3 months old... she got it infected (one) once, but it was no biggie, she was better 3 days after and the doc prescribed some antibiotics 'just to get rid of it well' and she was fine.
Last week (about wednesday), we noticed her earing missing..... =(((( I loved how she looks with them! so, we looked for it and nothing...
Today, I was cleaning her pack and play and VOALA! there it is! with the back piece and all!.... but... I bet her earing hole is big time closed!!!!
It makes my stomach turn just to think I can 'poke' it open again.... I mean it has a pointy post and could be done... but i just don't WANT TO!!!
Dh could do it.. (of course with all the precautions... and hygene).... but, do you guys think it's better to let it heal well and bring it to the mall (where they did it firstFirst progesterone mc10 First progesterone mc5 First-progesterone vgs 100 First-progesterone vgs 200 First-progesterone vgs 25 First-progesterone vgs 400 First-progesterone vgs 50 First-testosterone First-testosterone mc) and ask the lady to do it again for her? (of course give her a tip or something)....
I know,... that's what I thought.... I just don't have the HEART to do that!!!!! oh my gosh... just to try to poke it thru makes my skin rise!
Thank you girl... I think im gonna just let it heal well and then take it to do it again with the gun....
How long should I wait?
personally, i would wait 5 to 10 years... but that's just me :)
if you are determined to have her wear earrings, i definitely would not do it yourself. I had to do that to myself several times in life, and it was awful.
earrings are a big choking hazard for babies, in addition to problems with infections and such. I'm sure this experience has you thinking about all the "what-ifs." I have worked in a daycare that did not allow kids to wear earrings for these reasons.
your daughter is beautiful! She doesn't need jewelry at this point in her life, she's naturally cute! I would personnaly wait until she is bigger and asks for it, wants it and goes through that experience by her own choice...
either way, follow your heart! Don't let outside pressurePressure ulcer make you do things you don't want to do!
i would probably bring her at the mall and ask them to do it...lol or ask their opinion...usually they know a littleLittle noses decongestant Little tummys bit about this stuff or call the dr...
she said she already had them done it not the ? should i do this to both its should i get the one redone. go to where the pirced them in the beginning and ask if they can redo the one that fell out
I have had my ears pierced for probably about 20 years and anytime I take them out for a short period of time they close. Really crazy. I have numerous times popped them back through myself, but it hurts like hell and you know when it hurts to back off. I would just go and re-pierce them. I dont think you have to wait until it heals. With the gun it can probably just pop right thru that first skin layer without hurting too much.
you could always just stop by the ear peirce place and tell the lady what happened and ask her how long to wait- I agree with baby science, I don't see why you'd have to wait, but the lady there might know better....
I think babies (girl babies) look so adorable with pierced ears, but I didn't do taylor mostly because I didn't want to have to care for them- I thought it would best to just let her care for them later in life...
Thank you girls!
Ya know... I have been seriously thinking (after some research) about just pulling the other out and let it heal... and when she's older, then redo them. I am concerned about the choking hazard!... I mean, I found them in her pack and play.... if she would have picked that thing up and put it in her mouth... that thing is pointy and sharp!!!! I don't even wanna think about it....
I know... I agree!!!! (babyprayers... I know what you're thinking girlie! lol) they look soooo adorable with earings... and ya know, after all at 3 months they don't even pull them out.. but now that she's almost 9 months... she is pulling her hair, her ears.... and mine.. lol and I am scared that she pulls on the earing if I redo it because it's gonna hurt and itch at the begining.... =S
Gosh, I don't know what to do.....
I really thank for all your guys' advice and opinions.... like I said, it's really helpful!
I think you should go back to the piercing place and let them do it. They can slowly put the earring through the hole and should it be open she will not feel a thing. some times it is just a tiny bit of skin in the back that closed back up and it is so easy for them to pierce back through it. the piercer will be able to tell when/ if they hit the closed spot. If you want you can tell them if it seems closed that you just want the other one out instead of getting it pierced again. I have done this a bunch of times (as a piercer at both claires and piercing pagoda.) It will be somethign they can easily tell you exactly how closed it is. the only thing with this is you will probably have to buy at least one more earring.
the other thing you can do is use a non piercing earring and if you get it through than great and you can put her earring back in. If not, then make your decision.
a new pair of piercing earrings should have great backs that she cant get out. other wise I would go with screw backs to keep them from coming out again. they also make very tiny infinity hoops that dont actually dangle. It will hug her earlob, but will be able to go completely around in her ear. She will not beable to pull them out and should she actually get them out and swallow one, it will not be nearly as harmful as a post, especially a piercing post.
V - girl, how are you?????? I miss talking to you - the only time I seem to get on is the freakin' middle of the night when No has his parties!!!!
About the earring thing - I'm really not into that for babies and to see that Maddie pulled it out is scary. I agree w/the others that if you're determined to do this again, consult someone you trust at a piercing place about when's the best time. I guess everyone else has said basically the same thing but i just wanted you to know that I've been thinking about you and Maddie - is she crawling?? - jen
I think babies with earrings are adorable but I think it should be done at a very young age to prevent infection or it needs to be done when they are 10+. Now that she is older she is going to be touching them and pulling on them and that is only going to lead to bad things. I know you like how they look but I think it is best for little Maddie to just wait until she is older :(
kjbutcher- girl are you still living in Westminster?? maybe you can take a look at her?? =P
GRose, I have really put a lot of thought into that too.... I am scared she is gonna pull that thing right out! or swallow it,... I think the hoops (tiny ones that were described above) are an excellent idea! where do you find those???
hmm ...I haven't seen them in many stores. If the jewelry store you got her pierced at you may need to go to Starship or another body piercing store, they for sure would have them. I am thinking of the ones that have a ball that pops into place, the ball is very hard to get in and out so once it is in there it's stuck, so that may be a good option for you. I have a few of those earring and I have to go into the piercing shop to change them.
Thank you girl... I think im gonna just let it heal well and then take it to do it again with the gun....
