I am 163d and am starting to feel an itch in my throatCancer - throat or larynx Throat swab culture and a slight cough and was wondering if anyone can help me with a good medicine that is ok to take while pregnant. I really want to nip this cold in the butt please any advice is better than no advice.
:)
When I was pregnant I also got a cold. You can look for a cold medicine with no alcohol in it. I beleive Robotussin was what I used. To be sure, just call your doctors office and speak with the nurse. She will tell you for sure what they allow.
I am currently suffering from a bad cold, too. I have reviewed my baby books and the internet looking for anything I can take for some relief. I have found no OTC meds that seem to be semi-safe other than Hall's cough drops and Vick's vapor rub, and of course, Tylenol in moderation. I figure I will just keep plugging along and hope my body fights it off soon. I do sympathize with you!! My head feels like it is going to blow up from all the sinus pressure - and I can't breath. Makes working and sleeping quite difficult. Here's to better health soon.
I had allergies a few weeks ago and my doc said Robitussin cough med., or benadryl (make sure to take in evening, not while at work). If its allergies, there are many over the counter meds that are safe, I forget what they are called so should ask your doc first. There's actually a lot that is considered safe, but they say if you don't need it, its probably better to stay away from any meds while preg. If your throat gets too sore and doesn't start getting better, maybe you should get a throat culture too.
lemon and honey with a cup of warm water was what my grannie always gave me when i was little. no harm in trying and the bitter and sweet equal themselves out and worked for me. I am in australia and we have very helpful pharmacists here and i would go and see them, if you have the same where ever you are then i would even give them a go at what to do? hope you feel better soon!
I actually just called the maternity ward at the hospital and the nurse that answered said that Halls are fine to take during pregnancy. Looks like I will be getting some ASAP :)
My OB gave me a list of meds that are safe in PG and on it for colds and sore throats was dristan/otravin nasal spray (works like a miracle for nasal congestion), sudafed and all OTC throat losanges. When in doubt, call your OB and pharmacists. Should the cold/sore throat turn into a bacterial infection of some sort, there are many safe antibiotics.
My doctor told me Sudafed was a big no no. Anything with ephedrine or pseudoephedrine was NOT to be taken, so I would suggest checking with your doctor first before taking such things. JMHO, since I was told not to.
i am recently getting over a cold and i found the best cough drops for me weren't actually cough drops, well they kind of were. i am not sure of the brand but they're really vitamin c drops. they have different fruit flavors, and there's no medicine in them. they did help soothe my sore throat though.
i also have a humidifier that we use nightly, both my little ones have asthma. i have had 3 days of stuffiness and can now smell again. it really helps thin the secretions.
i was told not to take benadryl during pregnancies because it can pass through the placenta to the baby and their systems are too small to process it properly. hope this helped. :)
