NEED TO GET SOME COMFORTABLE SLEEP!? 30 WKS - Suggestions??

by newbie2b, Mar 05, 2007 12:00AM
For the past two weeks, sleeping comfortable and restfully has been quite a task for me.  Cant sleep on my back and now that I've explained to my bf why, he wakes me up whenever he catches me on my back. Great!  Anyhow, My hips hurt so much that i toss and turn from hip to hip. NOt a very easy thing to do when your 30 weeks pregnant. Sometimes, I get on all four to relieve some pressure on my hips.  Well last night, I did that and fell asleep that way!  I really really would love any advice you can give me. I'm DESPERATE!

To help your poor hips cope with the addes strain, try swimming or sitting on a yoga ball for a while each day.

Wierd I know, but it always helps me (I have a bad hip, much worse when preggers).

I wish, I would have any good advise! Getting comfy after 30 weeks is almost impossible! I was there just a few months ago, so I know what you mean. Some people recommend the pregnancy pillow. I slept on both sides even though they recommend just the left side. Also, I would sometimes sleep with 4 pillows, more like sitting up, just so I can sleep on my back. Good luck! only 8-10 weeks...hopefully not 12!

you sound just like me!! My husband does the same thing when I am on my back. I have a lot of hip pain and one thing that really helps is when i put a pillow between my legs and lift the top leg higer than the bottom. I'm 38w4d and that usually works.

I am in the same boat as you-I haven't been able to sleep well for at least a month now. I get up every hour, I am always exhausted.  Not to change the subject but I went to the doctor on Friday and they sent me over to triage at Labor and Delivery at the hospital to be evaluated because of all my swelling. My blood pressure was only slightly elevated and my blood work and urinalysis came back fine. They also did an Non stress test and she was fine-Thank god!! I have to go back on Wednesday to see how the swelling is. I might not be able to work anymore if it is still bad.  I did find out that the baby is already in the 60th percentile for size. It looks like she is going to be BIG!! Good luck with the sleeping-let me know if you find anything that works!! :)

I am right there with you.  I am 29 weeks and I try to sleep on my left side but then my hip starts hurting and I have to roll to my right side, then I find myself on my back and have to roll over again even though that is the only position that helps my hips because I am scared of cutting off blood supply.  But I keep telling myself only 10 more weeks and then I can complain about not sleeping because the baby kept me up all night.

Yep, I hear ya.  I caught myself on my back last night too with my legs over my BF.  It is horrible my hips hurt so bad and when they both hurt at the same time tossing does not work. The maternity Pillow does not work either.  I have two of those Cush Pillows I shove one under my belly when I am laying on my side so the baby can rest on that and the other I hug.  It works for about an hour at a time.

The snoring BF is going to be murdered before his baby is born.  I hate when I cant sleep and he is all cozy and dreaming.

So your having a big baby huh?  How are you feeling about that? I havent been told anything about mine yet as far as size.  I am scared to death because my bf is 6'3 and 250lbs (yes, he's put on some baby weight too!lol) AND he has a big head!! lol I'm scared it will get stuck.  I'm glad the Dr's took a look at your swelling.  You have to go back wednsday?  Any reason to think they will take you earlier than your due date? Oh, I've read that you should expect your baby to be the same size as your mothers children (you & your siblings). I was 6lbs 8oz my bro was 8lbs 10oz

Brentile: Yes I keep thinking the same thing. Just a few more weeks of this... Then I think, but I wont be able to sleep then either! lol  People keep telling me to get as much sleep as I can. Uh, how am I suppose to do that? I guess they forget how it feels to be pregnant.

Cantwait:
I was hoping that maybe you would tell me that one of those pillows works!  I was ready to spend whatever to get a good night sleep. :-(  My hopes are dashed! I've already taken over one of my bf's pillows and one from the sofa!  lol
BTW, how was the baby shower?  Are you all set now?
I put my crib up this weekend and I didnt freak out. Yay me! :-)

My husband is 6'4" and 255 lbs. My brother was 10 lbs 14 oz. almost 11 lbs. and 23 1/2 inches long, he was enormous. I was 8 lbs. something.  So it is not shocking that she is on the bigger side.  I hope she isn't enormous though!! :)  You could have a big baby too!!

I have alot of pain turning over in bed also, I am almost 34 weeks.  I did some research on the pelvic pain and came up with this website.

http://www.plus-size-pregnancy.org/pubicpain.htm

But I have had a ton of people that tell me they slept in a recliner the last few months of there pregnancies.  So maybe give that a try and see if it works for you.  Good luck

wow, you are really going through it with the swelling.  They may induce you early since you are having the big girl.  Did they say anything about a c-section?

Hi,

The shower went great.  I got EVERYTHING.  My friends even chipped in and got me the expensive car seat.  I was planning on getting that myself.

Now my little house is covered in baby stuff and I have no clue where i am going to put it.

Your shower is in just a few weeks.  This time is flying by.

They didn't say anything yet about inducing me or a C-section( I hope not!!)  I guess I will just have to wait and see! :)  I am glad you had a good Baby Shower, mine is on the 18th.

Try sleepi9ng onyour side with a pillow between your legs and the top leg forward of the bottom leg.

I couldn't sleep for weeks because of my hips (except for when the doctor made me take Cardio aspirin to help with my circulation), since I have tried this position I only wake up every hour to go to the toilet, sometimes I make it a full hour and a half, but then I feel like I am going to explode.

I am 38 weeks.

Good luck and hopefully good night.

hey everyone i have a suggestion that works for me. i went to walmart and bought a car buffer (waxer) from the automotive section, about $20. during 1st preg dh would would buffer my hips and legs, it was wonderful. i am now 16 wks and about to break the news to dh that it is time to bring the buffer back out!!! last night after tossing and turning all night i realized it was time. i originally got the idea from my chiropractor. anyway y'all try it and let me know what you think.

I've found that using a maternity pillow works wonders! Even though it may take up  most of the bed. lol It supports your back and belly so it makes sleeping much more comfy. Also, I put a pillow between my legs to reduce pelvic pressure.

I'm having the same problem, im also 30 weeks and having a real hard time sleeping.  My hips also hurt when i lie on my side.  Its helped having a pillow between my knees.  I can't wait to sleep on my back again.

I stopped drinking coffee and tea after three in the afternoon and that has really helped me get a better nights sleep.

I found a website that gave me some good tips, it said if you tense, then relax your body, starting with your toes and then working your way up, doing a bit at a time, then imaging your toes, etc, sinking into the bed, it might help and it seems to have worked for me i've been reasonably ok for the last couple of nights.  Either that or my body just gave in because i'm so exhausted lol.

The same website also said try breathing in slowly over 8 seconds, holding it in for 2 seconds and then breathing out.  Apparently this slows your heartbeat down and concentrating on it will stop you from thinking of other stuff.  Thats my big problem, i'll get into bed and start thinking about the baby.

Good luck :)
