No heartbeat

by JenTe, May 31, 2007 12:00AM
Hi,

I have read some comments and posts, but they just seem to confuse me more. My LMP was 03/30/2007. I miscarried on 3/2/07. I am usually every 30-32 days cycle, but I may have been off because of the earlier miscarriage. I could have gotten pregnant anytime in April before the 21st. I took a home pregnanct test on the 30th and there was a tiny faint line. I then went in to the dr. and took a blood test. The Hcg level came out about only 130. I have had 3 transvaginal ultrasounds so far. All have looked ok, except for the third one which was done yesterday. We saw the fetal pole and we saw the yolk sac which the Dr. said to be a healthy pregnancy. But his concern was that their was no heartbeat and the fetal pole had grown only a little since 2 weeks ago, which was my last ultrasound. He is sending me tomorrow to do a more advanced transvaginal utlrasound, where he can detect if blood is flowing to the baby/sac. I have had no pains, no bleedding, and I feel pregnant. He also took the Hcg levels again yesterday but I won't know the results until tomorrow. The one taken 2 weeks ago, was nice and high at 30,000. Does anyone know what can possibly be happening? Am I going through another miscarriage, or may it still be too soon to hear a heartbeat. Please help, I don't think I am prepared for another miscarriage so soon. Thank you!

Hi there , im sorry to hear about your previous loss and the worry you are going through right now . Im not quite sure how far along you are now , did the doc say ? i tried to work it out by your last lmp but got mixed up (sorry , bit of brain fog this morning !) . I know that a lot of women post on here after a scary u/s where no h/b is detected , and far as ive read , this can happen up to 8 weeks . If you are earlier then there is definately a chance its still too early . This happened to my freind also , and she was told to expect to miscarry , and to come in the following week for follow up u/s and to schedule a d/c , and there it was , a little h/b , at 7 1/2 weeks .she is now 12 wks 4 d and doing fine .  I just wanted to say good luck and you have a good chance all will be well . The doc saying that it looked like a healthy pregnancy so far is very reassuring also . Chin up hun , keep us posted . xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi,
I had a similiar situation, your HCG levels look great! The fact that the Dr can see the fetal pole and heartbeat is promising.  Being a nurse I would assume that the Dr is being cautious due to the last miscarriage : (   Stay positive, try not to stress until you have something to stress about and Good Luck to you!

I was told at my 5 week ultrasound that there was a small sac, but measuring too small to even consider it viable, no fetal pole or yolk sac. Next week a normal sized sac, with a small bean and a hb. Was told I was measuring 5 days behind. Dont worry too much about those early ultrasounds, your hcg levels look good. Happy thoughts

Thank you all for your quick comments. According to my LMP, I should be 8 weeks, gestational age. Fetal age can be anywhere from 5 to 6 weeks. I am really trying to stay positive and just wait to see what happens tomorrow. Once again, thank you for your help. =)

Just to let you know, your lmp dates on ultrasound will be the same, so they dont take into account actual fetal age.. If your lmp puts you at 8 weeks your ultrasound should measure about that, give or take a few days, unless like you said you ovulated twice.

Sometimes today's technology misleads us.  It sounds like your gut instinct is that everything is fine.  I would go with that.

My gut has never talked to me more in my life than it has since I have gotten pregnant and had children.
With my m/c, I KNEW things were 'not right', and I had seen a hb, and everything was clinically normal.  With this last pregnancy, I had a lot of bleeding, and spotting, but my gut was screaming to me that everything was fine.  I still worried, but I knew in the back of my mind that I was OK.

Try to relax, and it sounds like you'll have a definite answer very shortly.
I'm sorry you have to play this waiting game....is $ucks.  Take care.
